Matt Damon brought his wife, Luciana Barroso, and their two youngest daughters to the Seoul premiere of The Odyssey, where the family greeted fans with heart-hand poses.
Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, joined their parents at Yeongdeungpo Time Square in South Korea on August 4th. Gia wore a long white dress, while Stella selected a pale blue slip dress with white lace detailing.
Damon arrived in a burgundy suit with a silver-gray shirt and matching tie. Luciana wore a fitted cobalt blue gown as the four posed together on the red carpet.
The actor said returning to Korea after 10 years became especially memorable because he was able to introduce his wife and daughters to the country for the first time.
Damon Said Bringing His Family Made Seoul More Memorable
“It’s been incredible being back. It’s my first time in 10 years,” Damon told reporters at the event. “But this time I was able to bring my wife and my two youngest daughters, and to be able to see this town with them and to meet people with them, and expose them to Korea for the first time has been incredibly memorable,” he added in remarks reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Christopher Nolan attended with his wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas. Charlize Theron, who plays Calypso in the film, also joined Damon at the premiere. Damon stars as Odysseus in Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic, which follows the Greek warrior’s dangerous journey home after the Trojan War.
All Four Daughters Joined Damon at the London Premiere
Gia and Stella also supported their father during earlier stops on the film’s international press tour. They joined Alexia, 27, and Isabella, 20, when Damon and Luciana brought all four daughters to the London world premiere on July 6th.
“Everybody’s so grown-up,” Damon told Entertainment Tonight. “Like, I got a real dad teary moment seeing them today.” “It’s a lot,” he added. “It’s wonderful, but it’s a lot.” Damon said his family had also made sacrifices while he was filming the movie.
Production kept him away from home for an extended period, although Luciana and their daughters visited during the shoot. “It was a very long movie, very grueling shoot,” he told PEOPLE. “I’m really excited for my girls to see it.”
One Daughter’s Five-Word Review Made the Work Worthwhile
After watching the completed film, one of Damon’s daughters gave him a response he had not expected. “Dad, I’m proud of you,” she told him, according to PEOPLE. “She’s never said anything like that because we joke around a lot, and so at that point, I was like, ‘I’m good,’” he said. “It was all worth it.”
Isabella has taken a different approach to reviewing her father’s work. During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Damon said she prefers to watch his movies only after hearing that they are bad.
“One of my daughters, she’s got a great sense of humor, and our kind of banter is she basically says she’ll only see a movie that I’m in if she hears it’s bad,” he said. “Just to keep me humble.”
Family Dinner Remains ‘Non-Negotiable’
Damon and Luciana are adjusting to having two adult daughters already outside the family home while trying to remain present during the years they still have with Gia and Stella. “We have family dinner every night, and that’s non-negotiable, and it’s always been that way,” Damon told PEOPLE.
He acknowledged that sitting together does not always guarantee meaningful family time. One of his daughters recently pointed out that everyone had spent a dinner focused on work or their phones without actually talking. “We sat down for dinner, and you can get lost in that routine a little bit and not appreciate why you established the routine in the first place,” Damon said.
