Millie Bobby Brown is talking about motherhood without giving away the parts of her daughter’s life she wants to keep private.
The Stranger Things star, 22, opened up in UNICEF’s “My Parenting Journey” series after welcoming a baby girl with her husband, Jake Bongiovi, through adoption in the summer of 2025. People reported that Brown said no one could have fully prepared her for the love she now feels.
Brown Said the Love Surprised Her Most
Brown said she had heard people talk about loving their children, but she did not understand the feeling until she became a mother herself.
“People say they love their children,” she said in the UNICEF video, according to People. “I don’t understand how that much happens in my heart. I don’t know how the feeling is so overwhelming. It’s just incomprehensible.”
UNICEF said Brown shared the reflection to mark the start of Parenting Month in June. The organization described the video as part of a series about the realities of raising children.
She Still Calls Her Mom for Reassurance
Brown also described the uncertainty that comes with new parenthood.
She said there are moments when her daughter does something unfamiliar and she wonders whether it is normal. When that happens, Brown said she calls her mother, Kelly Brown, for reassurance.
“She’s just like my 911,” Brown said, according to People.
Brown said her mother-in-law, Dorothea Hurley, gives her the same kind of support when she cannot reach her own mother. She said it is helpful to hear someone calmly tell her that what she is seeing is normal.
She and Jake Bongiovi Take It One Day at a Time
Brown said she and Bongiovi have a simple motto as new parents.
“My husband and I always say, ‘Today was today and tomorrow is going to be tomorrow, and let’s just sleep,’” Brown said in the UNICEF video, according to People. “You just take it day by day.”
The couple quietly married in May 2024. They announced in August 2025 that they had welcomed their daughter through adoption, writing at the time that they were beginning parenthood with “peace and privacy.”

Food Has Become Their Shared Love Language
Brown shared one small detail about her daughter without revealing her identity.
She said her daughter loves food, and Brown does too, so eating together has become one of their shared rituals.
“We just love to sit there and eat,” Brown said, according to People. “She always wants to try what I’m having and I’m always eating what she’s having.”
Brown called food their “love language together.”
Brown Is Keeping Her Daughter’s Story Private
Brown has been clear that she does not want her daughter’s name, personality, or private life turned into public material before the child can decide for herself.
In a British Vogue interview, Brown said she would not share those details because it is her job to protect her daughter’s story.
“It’s not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly,” Brown said, according to People’s coverage of the interview.
She also said there are no plans to reveal her daughter’s name until her daughter is old enough to decide for herself.
She Wants Her Daughter to See Women Supporting Women
Brown also spoke about the responsibility of raising a daughter.
UNICEF quoted Brown saying that she wants her daughter to grow up knowing “girls supporting girls, women succeeding, women achieving their dreams.”
