Mira Sorvino marked 22 years of marriage to Christopher Backus with a loving anniversary post that looked back on their life together and the family they have built since 2004.

The Oscar-winning actress shared the tribute on Instagram on Thursday, July 2. PEOPLE reported that Sorvino called Backus her “best friend,” “soul mate,” “partner in crime,” “artistic inspirer” and “phenomenal baby daddy.”

“I love you so much Chris, I can’t wait to see what deeper and deeper joys await us,” Sorvino wrote.

Backus answered in the comments with his own message, calling Sorvino his “beautiful wonderful artistic soulful angelic wife” and writing that he was “the luckiest guy in the world.”

The anniversary post offered another public glimpse at a marriage that has lasted more than two decades in and around Hollywood. Sorvino, 58, and Backus, 44, have been married since 2004 and share four children: Mattea, Johnny, Holden and Lucia.

The couple first exchanged vows in a Santa Barbara courthouse before holding a second wedding in Capri, Italy, the following month, according to PEOPLE.

Sorvino praised Backus as a husband, father and creative presence in her life, while his comment answered in the same tone.

Capri has remained an important place for Sorvino and Backus. PEOPLE reported that they returned there for their 20th anniversary in 2024 after a stop in Ireland, visiting the spot where they held their Italian wedding ceremony in July 2004.

Backus told PEOPLE that Capri is “our happy place,” adding, “There’s no better place than Italy. We just were happy and in love and running around.”

Sorvino said they found the house where they married and walked back up to the place where they had exchanged vows. “We said I do on the top of this hill overlooking Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples with all these trees around,” she told the outlet.

She described the return trip as “an amazing sort of re-cementing of our love for each other.”

They Have Built a Family and Creative Partnership

Sorvino and Backus’ marriage has also included professional collaboration. PEOPLE reported that the couple executive produced the psychological thriller Daft State, which stars Backus.

In a 2024 interview with Moviefone, Sorvino said she became involved with the film after seeing it and wanting to help bring it to audiences. She also praised Backus’ performance in the project.

The couple have spoken in the past about protecting time together while raising four children. PEOPLE reported that Sorvino previously said date nights were important because parenting can leave couples “next to each other” without spending time together as partners.

Sorvino also credited Backus for supporting her during pregnancy complications and a difficult delivery with their son Holden. “Because of my husband and my children, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world, and I just want to cherish every minute we have together,” she told PEOPLE in a 2009 interview.
