Amber Eggers, whose life after prison became a recurring part of Love After Lockup and Life After Lockup, has died. She was 41.
Eggers died Thursday night, September 3, at an Atlanta hospital after experiencing acute liver failure, her mother Monica Eggers told TMZ. Monica said her daughter had been admitted several days earlier after she began feeling unwell and that doctors were ultimately unable to keep her heart beating.
People close to Eggers said in a social media tribute that she entered the hospital on September 1 with liver failure. The hospitalization came after a difficult stretch of health problems that included a life threatening illness in 2025 and what Eggers later described publicly as a “mini stroke.” No publicly available medical information has connected those earlier events to the acute liver failure reported at the time of her death.
WEtv and Love After Lockup remembered Eggers as an “original and unforgettable” member of the franchise and a “bright light” who shared her life with viewers over several years.
Her Family Says She Died After Acute Liver Failure
Monica told TMZ that Eggers had not been feeling well before she entered the Atlanta hospital. Her condition worsened during the hospitalization, and Monica identified acute liver failure as the cause of her daughter’s death.
A separate tribute from people close to Eggers said she was admitted on Tuesday, September 1, with liver failure. The message said doctors did everything they could before her body could no longer withstand the illness.
Entertainment Weekly also reported the family’s confirmation of Eggers’ death. Neither her family nor the available medical reporting has publicly identified what caused the acute liver failure.
Eggers Survived a Critical Illness in 2025
Eggers had already endured a serious medical emergency the previous year. Her sister Erin Hyndman created a GoFundMe in May 2025 after Eggers was hospitalized with severe pneumonia and a bacterial infection in her bloodstream.
Hyndman wrote that Eggers was initially placed on a ventilator before doctors moved her to ECMO, a form of life support that temporarily performs work for the heart and lungs. A later update said Eggers improved enough to leave intensive care and began physical therapy to regain strength in her legs.
A tribute published after her death said that illness had progressed to sepsis and multiple organ failure before Eggers recovered and returned home. Eggers also wrote in August that she had recently experienced a “mini stroke.” Those medical problems are part of her recent health history, but there is no public medical finding linking them to the liver failure that preceded her death.
‘Love After Lockup’ Followed Her Life After Prison
Eggers entered the WEtv franchise in 2019 after serving four years in prison for drug trafficking. Love After Lockup followed her relationship with Vincent Gonzalez, whom she began dating while incarcerated. The two became engaged, but the relationship ended after her release.
Her story continued through later appearances and Life After Lockup, where viewers also saw her close and complicated relationship with former cellmate Michelle “Puppy” Deaton. The women explored a romantic connection before eventually pursuing other relationships while remaining important parts of each other’s lives.
Deaton once described what Eggers had meant to her during incarceration, saying Eggers loved her when she struggled to love herself and helped her through one of the hardest periods of her life.

The official Love After Lockup and WEtv accounts paid tribute to Eggers on September 4. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Amber Eggers, an original and unforgettable member of the Love After Lockup family,” the statement said.
The network also called her a “bright light” who shared her story with “courage and authenticity” and said it was honored to have been part of her journey over several years. The message ended by sending condolences to the family and friends who were closest to her.
That support had also surrounded Eggers during her 2025 hospitalization. In the fundraiser she organized during that illness, Hyndman wrote that the family wanted to focus on being with Eggers while she recovered and thanked those helping them through what she expected to be a long recovery.
