Nara Smith is standing by her decision to become a mother at 19 and have four children young, calling it “the best decision.” The creator discussed her family’s timeline during an Oct. 8 episode of Emma Grede’s Aspire podcast.

Smith, 25, said her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, shared her desire to start a family early when they met. She had not chosen a specific age for becoming a parent.

Smith said her father had children at 45 and later told them he wished he had started sooner because he would have had more energy, a conversation she remembered when considering her own future.

Smith acknowledged that she had not fully understood the financial responsibilities when she first became a mother. She also stressed that deciding whether and when to have children was a personal choice that each person needed to make for themselves.

Smith Says Raising Children Requires More Planning Around Work

“I don’t think kids hold you back,” Smith told Grede. She said parenting required more planning and scheduling, and that she felt fortunate to be able to work and provide for her children.

As Us Weekly reported, Smith said the couple brought in additional support during their daughter Whimsy’s cancer treatment. Her mother came to help, her father was planning a visit and they hired a nanny while managing work, travel and their daughter’s care.

Smith described setting aside time for activities with individual children, including getting her nails done with her daughter and playing football with her son. Business tasks often continued late into the night, and she said she sometimes called her agents at 1 a.m.

They Planned for Six Children Before Smith Considered Stopping at Two

Smith and Lucky originally talked about having six children while they were dating. After their first baby arrived, she stayed home while Lucky worked. She said she had recently moved to the United States and could not yet work because of her visa.

After their second child, Smith wanted to return to work and regain a sense of identity beyond being at home with the children. She described the cycle of pregnancy, nursing and caring for babies and toddlers as overwhelming, and briefly thought two children might be enough.

Lucky wanted a third child, and Smith, who grew up with two siblings, liked the idea of raising three children and agreed to expand their family.

In an August 2024 interview with GQ, Smith said they were finished having children. Lucky explained, “We feel like we couldn’t be as good of parents if we added in any more.”

The couple announced Smith’s fourth pregnancy in June 2025 with an Instagram reel captioned “our little surprise.” Their daughter Fawnie Golden later arrived on Smith’s birthday, joining Rumble Honey, Slim Easy and Whimsy Lou.

Discussing her youngest with Grede, Smith called Fawnie “the most precious thing” and said she could not imagine life without her.

Her First Cookbook Arrives on Oct. 13

Smith still films and edits her own cooking videos. She also told Grede that she uses brand partnerships to learn what her audience wants before developing her own consumer products business.

Her debut cookbook, Homemade, is due Oct. 13 and contains 80 recipes, according to HarperCollins. The collection includes everyday family meals alongside the elaborate recipes that helped build her online following.

In an interview with People, Smith described how her German grandmother influenced the book. Recipes for schnitzel and German pretzels draw on her European upbringing, and the collection includes memories of the food she grew up eating.
