LeBron James has only just joined the Philadelphia 76ers, but another sports organization in his new city already has a championship role waiting for him.
TNA Wrestling formally invited James to attend its July 30 event at Philadelphia’s Liacouras Center and serve as the “Official Title Holder” for Nic Nemeth’s World Championship defense against Jeff Hardy.
The proposed role would place James at ringside before he presents the championship belt to the winner, according to TMZ Sports.
Nemeth followed the company’s announcement with a personal invitation to the four-time NBA champion, using their shared Ohio roots to strengthen his pitch.
TNA Wants James at Ringside for the World Championship Match
“As the Philadelphia 76ers now seriously talk titles, TNA Wrestling has a major World Championship match Thursday in Philadelphia,” the company said in its official invitation. TNA asked James to become the “Official Title Holder” for Nemeth and Hardy’s match and ended the announcement with a direct message: “See you ringside, LeBron!”
TMZ reported that James would stand near the ring and hand the belt to the champion after the match. TNA has not proposed that he wrestle, become physically involved or join an ongoing storyline. The event is being held at the Liacouras Center on Temple University’s campus during the first of two consecutive nights of TNA programming in Philadelphia.
The July 30 edition of Thursday Night iMPACT! is scheduled to air live at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and AMC+ in the United States. The show will also be available through Sportsnet 360 in Canada and TNA+ internationally.
Nemeth Used Their Ohio Connection in His Personal Pitch
Nemeth, who grew up in Kent, Ohio, acknowledged that James passed on a potential return to Cleveland before choosing Philadelphia. “LeBron, come on, man,” Nemeth told TMZ Sports. “You didn’t pick Cleveland this last time, and we don’t hold it against you. Most of us didn’t burn our jerseys.”
The wrestler said Ohio fans remained proud of James and invited him to experience TNA’s Philadelphia show. “Come check us out in Philly,” Nemeth said. “TNA is the place to be. It’s going to be an absolute blast.”
Nemeth jokingly conceded that James might witness a new champion before quickly promoting his own plan to retain the title and “steal the show.” Before joining TNA, Nemeth spent nearly two decades with WWE, where he performed as Dolph Ziggler and became a two-time world champion.
Jeff Hardy Is Challenging for Nemeth’s Championship
Nemeth began his second reign as TNA World Champion at Slammiversary on June 28 in Boston. Hardy enters the Philadelphia match as a three-time former TNA World Champion. He last captured the company’s top singles title at Bound for Glory in October 2012 and held it until March 2013.
TNA has promoted the match as the first time Nemeth and Hardy will meet one-on-one with the World Championship at stake. The two wrestlers previously faced each other in May 2025, their first singles match in 16 years, but no world title was involved in that encounter.
The July 30 broadcast also features Mustafa Ali defending the TNA International Championship against Jason Hotch and Knockouts World Tag Team Champions Rosemary and Allie facing The Elegance Brand.
The Invitation Followed James’ Move to Philadelphia
The 76ers officially announced James’ signing on July 27 and confirmed that he will wear No. 23. The 41-year-old spent the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers after earlier playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat.
He has won four NBA championships and is attempting to become the first player to win titles with four different franchises. James called Philadelphia his “last decision” and said he selected the 76ers because he believed he could help the franchise compete for its first NBA championship since 1983.
