Olivia Rodrigo shared a personal detail about her hearing while promoting her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, and turned the moment into a joke about where people should sit if they want to tell her a secret.

The Grammy winner revealed during a KISS FM UK interview that she is “60% deaf” in her left ear. People reported that the comment came after host Tyler West asked about her new song “What’s Wrong With Me?”

Rodrigo laughed at the title and said there was “quite a lot” wrong with her before mentioning her hearing. She explained that if someone sits on her left side and tries to whisper something private, she may not be able to make out what they are saying.

“So, if you’ve got a secret, just tell it in my right ear,” Rodrigo joked, according to People.

Rodrigo was speaking with KISS FM UK hosts Tyler West and Chloe Burrows while promoting You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. E! News reported that the exchange aired during a June 4 appearance on the station’s radio show.

The hearing comment came through casually, not as a formal medical announcement. Rodrigo connected it to the song title, joked about her right ear, and kept the interview moving.

She Learned About Her Hearing Loss in Kindergarten

Rodrigo had spoken about the condition before. People reported that she said on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast in 2023 that she learned she was partly deaf in her left ear during school hearing tests.

She described the discovery as strange because the tests showed she was “a little hard of hearing” at a young age. The KISS FM UK interview added a more specific number to something she had already mentioned publicly.

She Has Joked About the Irony Before

Rodrigo has also joked about being a musician with partial hearing loss. In the 2023 Awards Chatter interview, she said she and photographer Petra Collins joke that Rodrigo makes music despite bad hearing while Collins takes photos despite poor vision, according to People.

The KISS FM moment had the same dry tone. Rodrigo gave a direct detail about her hearing, laughed about the practical problem it creates, and moved back into the album conversation.
