Rick Harrison went to the hospital expecting a routine stent procedure. Doctors found a more serious problem and determined that the Pawn Stars personality needed bypass surgery instead.
The 61-year-old reality star is recovering after the emergency surgery, according to a family representative. Entertainment Weekly reported September 4 that Harrison is resting comfortably and looking forward to a full recovery.
His wife, Agripina “Angie” Polushkin, and other relatives are with him during his hospitalization. Harrison’s representative also said he is grateful to the doctors and hospital staff caring for him.
The family has not disclosed what doctors discovered during the planned procedure, how extensive the bypass surgery was or when Harrison may leave the hospital. The latest public update remains focused on his recovery rather than a specific diagnosis.
Doctors Determined Harrison Needed Bypass Surgery
TMZ, which first reported the hospitalization, said Harrison went in for what was expected to be a routine stent procedure. A spokesperson for the family said doctors then found a more serious issue that required bypass surgery.
Entertainment Weekly received the same update from a family spokesperson, who said Harrison had gone in for a simpler procedure before doctors determined that a bypass was necessary. The representative did not identify the underlying heart problem.
Fox News also reported that Harrison was resting comfortably and expected to make a full recovery. No subsequent public update has reported a setback.

Polushkin’s presence comes eight months after she and Harrison married in Las Vegas. The couple exchanged vows January 3 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in a ceremony officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.
They later held a second wedding celebration at Le Blanc Spa Resort in Cancún on January 26. Harrison had previously spoken about how important Polushkin became during difficult periods in his life, telling Fox News earlier this year that he was the happiest he had ever been.
He also credited Polushkin with supporting him through those periods. Harrison’s latest family statement specifically mentioned his wife and relatives being beside him while he recovers from surgery.
Harrison Has Starred on ‘Pawn Stars’ Since 2009
Harrison became a television fixture when Pawn Stars premiered on History in 2009. The series follows the business at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, which Harrison runs with members of his family and longtime employees.
His son Corey Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell became two of the show’s other familiar faces, while Harrison’s father, Richard “Old Man” Harrison, appeared regularly until his death in 2018.
The series went on hiatus in 2025, but Entertainment Weekly reports that new episodes are expected in 2027.
