Richard Hammond has answered the question fans keep asking about Jeremy Clarkson’s pub: is he actually banned?
The former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter addressed the rumor in a recent DriveTribe video, where he took on some of the internet’s most searched questions about himself.
The Mirror reported that Hammond was asked whether he had been barred from Clarkson’s Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog. His answer was not exactly a denial.
Hammond said he thinks he is banned and if he is not, he has always wanted to be.
Richard Hammond Says Clarkson Told Him He Was Already Banned
Hammond’s answer fits the long-running comic rivalry between him, Clarkson and James May. The three presenters spent years turning car tests, road trips and studio segments into arguments, pranks and sabotage, first on Top Gear and later on Amazon’s The Grand Tour.
Hammond said the subject had come up before when he visited May’s own pub. He reminded May that his stated goal was to get himself banned, then asked what he would need to do to make it happen.
James May Had His Own Answer About Pub Behavior
May gave Hammond a mock-serious explanation of what might actually get someone removed.
According to The Mirror, May said a pub should allow discussion and different opinions, so Hammond would not be barred simply for holding a radical view.
May then said the line would be crossed if Hammond damaged artwork, broke windows or insulted the staff. Hammond replied that he would “go for a ban,” adding that Clarkson had already told him he was banned from The Farmer’s Dog.

The Farmer’s Dog opened in 2024 in Oxfordshire and quickly became another public-facing part of Clarkson’s farming business. The pub is tied to the same rural brand that made Clarkson’s Farm a major Amazon hit, with Clarkson putting British produce at the center of the operation.
The Express also reported Hammond’s comments, noting that he has still not visited Clarkson’s pub and has joked before that he wants to get himself banned.
LADbible reported earlier in 2025 that Hammond said he had been to May’s pub, but not Clarkson’s. At the time, he said he wanted to go there and get banned, turning the whole thing into less of a punishment and more of a personal challenge.
The final Clarkson, Hammond and May special for The Grand Tour arrived in 2024, ending their long run together as a regular TV trio.
