Rick Ross is not making his pitch to LeBron James as a basketball analyst. He is making it like a businessman.
TMZ Sports reported that the Miami rapper and longtime Heat fan urged James to return to South Beach as speculation grows over where the NBA star will play next.
Ross said the move would make sense not only for basketball, but for the business empire James has built away from the court.
James has not announced his next team, but Miami has become one of the most talked-about possibilities as he prepares for what would be his 24th NBA season.
Ross Said Miami Makes Sense for LeBron’s Brand
Ross told TMZ that he was looking at the situation from a “boss” perspective. His argument was that Miami could give James access to more business opportunities, wealthy investors and brand-building possibilities than some other rumored destinations.
He also made clear that he was not trying to insult Cleveland, another city often connected to James. Ross said he likes Cleveland, but argued that Miami offers a different kind of lifestyle and financial network.
“This is about business,” Ross said, adding that he wants to see James expand his empire and put his logos on buildings in downtown Miami.
The Heat Rumors Already Have Momentum
ESPN reported that James informed the Lakers he plans to play elsewhere in 2026-27, immediately turning several teams into possible landing spots.
Axios Miami recently argued that Miami could be an appealing final chapter for James, especially after the Heat added Giannis Antetokounmpo to a roster already led by Bam Adebayo.
That kind of basketball setup would give James a ready-made contender if he wanted to chase one more title. It would also bring him back to the city where he won his first two NBA championships alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Ross Wants the Move to Be Bigger Than Basketball
Ross said he wants to see James make more money, grow his companies and expand the businesses he has created.
Ross has also been talking publicly about Miami sports ownership. Earlier this month, he told TMZ he wanted a piece of the Miami Dolphins, while also expressing excitement about the Heat adding Antetokounmpo and potentially landing James.
