Rob Lowe has spent more than four decades playing romantic leads, but he did not need much time to choose the costar behind his favorite onscreen kiss. During a September 27 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Lowe named Nastassja Kinski when Andy Cohen asked him to identify the best on-camera kiss of his career.
The question came during Cohen’s “Plead the Fifth” game, where Lowe was given three questions and the option to avoid one. Bravo’s official clip confirms that the round covered his best onscreen kiss, his favorite physical feature and a ranking of several of his earlier movies.
Cohen reminded Lowe that his screen history included kisses with Demi Moore, Kim Cattrall, Rashida Jones, Calista Flockhart and Meg Tilly, but the list did not change his answer. Entertainment Weekly reported that Lowe chose Kinski, his costar in the 1984 film The Hotel New Hampshire, and recalled being overwhelmed by how striking he found her at the time.
Lowe said he was “very, very scared” before kissing Kinski, turning what Cohen framed as a light celebrity question into a memory from one of the earliest stretches of Lowe’s movie career.

Lowe’s answer came before Cohen could persuade him toward any of the other well-known actresses on the list. When Cohen asked why Kinski stood out, Lowe’s first response was simply, “Have a look at her,” before explaining how beautiful he considered her when they worked together. Page Six noted that Cohen continued naming other notable onscreen partners, but Lowe never reconsidered his choice.
Cohen moved on from the Kinski answer to Lowe’s appearance, asking the actor to choose his best physical feature. Lowe joked first about the consequences of drinking too many milkshakes before eventually settling on his hair, another answer Entertainment Weekly highlighted from the exchange. The final part of the round had Lowe rank several projects associated with his Brat Pack era.
The Kiss Came During One of Lowe’s Earliest Film Roles
The Hotel New Hampshire was released in 1984, one year after Lowe appeared as Sodapop Curtis in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders. The American Film Institute’s catalog identifies Tony Richardson as the director of The Hotel New Hampshire, with Lowe starring as John Berry alongside Jodie Foster, Beau Bridges and the rest of the ensemble.
Kinski played Susie, a young woman who spends much of the unusual John Irving adaptation in a bear costume. The movie was based on Irving’s 1981 novel and arrived during a period when Lowe was quickly building his film résumé after The Outsiders, which AFI lists as a March 1983 release.
