John Owen Lowe has joined several members of the Lowe family in publicly remembering his 13-year-old cousin, Fiona.
The 30-year-old actor and writer, who is Rob Lowe’s youngest son, shared Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope Is the Thing With Feathers” on his Instagram Stories over the weekend, according to AOL.
John Owen did not add a long personal message. Instead, he let Dickinson’s lines about hope surviving difficult circumstances stand on their own days after Fiona’s death on September 29th.
Fiona was the middle daughter of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter, who also share daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Her parents described her as smart, creative and passionate about dance while asking for privacy for the family.
John Owen Chose a Poem About Hope
The poem John Owen selected is built around the image of hope as a bird that continues singing even through a storm. He shared multiple lines from the Dickinson work rather than writing a separate caption explaining what he was feeling.
InStyle reported that the Story was one of several tributes that appeared from members of Fiona’s extended family in the days following her death.
John Owen is Chad’s nephew as well as Fiona’s cousin. He has also worked professionally with his uncle: Chad directed an episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star written by John Owen.
Mabel Lowe Shared Her Own Tribute to Her Sister
Fiona’s older sister Mabel also posted publicly on October 3rd, sharing a collection of photographs from their lives together.
Mabel wrote that she would “honor you forever” and keep Fiona’s memory alive. Entertainment Weekly reported that her post contained 15 photographs showing the sisters together over the years.
Their grandfather Charles “Chuck” Lowe had previously shared his own brief remembrance alongside a photograph of Fiona swimming.
The Lowe Family Has Asked for Privacy
Chad and Painter said after their daughter’s death that Fiona was deeply loved by her parents and sisters and called her the light of their lives.
Rob Lowe and other relatives and friends have since rallied around Chad and Painter, although the family has largely kept its grieving process private.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled Fiona’s death a suicide. Her family has encouraged anyone struggling with mental health to call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States.
