Sean “Diddy” Combs may leave federal prison earlier than the most recent public timeline suggested.
The music mogul’s projected release date has been moved up to Feb. 23, 2028, according to reports citing Federal Bureau of Prisons records.
Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted in 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges.
Combs’ appeal remains pending while his prison-release calculation has continued to shift.
The New Date Moves His Release Into February 2028

People reported that Combs’ projected release date is now listed as Feb. 23, 2028. The outlet said no official reason was given for the latest change.
The update moves his projected release several months earlier than previous dates in 2028. Page Six reported that his date had previously shifted from June 4, 2028, to April 25, 2028, and later to April 15, 2028.
People reported that the latest adjustment may be connected to Combs’ participation in a drug-abuse rehabilitation program at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. Entertainment Weekly reported that he is participating in the Residential Drug Abuse Program while incarcerated.
A projected release date is not the same thing as a final court outcome. Federal prison dates can change again based on Bureau of Prisons calculations, program credits, good-conduct time, disciplinary issues or court rulings.
Combs Is Serving His Sentence at Fort Dix
Combs is currently incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix, a federal correctional institution in New Jersey.
His attorneys had previously sought placement there because of available programs and because the location would make family visits easier, according to People.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Combs’ sentence also included a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release.
The February 2028 date reflects the current public prison record, not a guarantee that the date will hold. The Bureau of Prisons’ inmate locator notes that release dates can be reviewed and recalculated as sentences and credits are updated.
His Appeal Is Still Pending
Combs’ legal team has appealed both his conviction and sentence.
People reported that his attorneys argue the case involved consensual encounters and that the sentence was excessive. Prosecutors have pushed back against that framing, arguing that Combs abused victims and should remain accountable for the convictions.
If Combs wins relief in court, his sentence could change through the legal system. If not, the Feb. 23, 2028, date remains the clearest public marker for when he may be released under the current prison record.
The Case Still Carries a Complicated Legal Backdrop
Combs was arrested in September 2024 and later convicted on two prostitution-related transportation counts.
He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, but the convictions still resulted in a sentence of more than four years.
The latest release-date change does not erase the conviction or resolve the appeal.
For now, Combs remains incarcerated at Fort Dix, his appeal remains active and his projected release is listed for Feb. 23, 2028.
