Selena Gomez has sold her sprawling Encino estate for $5.4 million, accepting nearly $1.1 million less than the price she sought when the property hit the market in May.
The sale was completed Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to TMZ. Gomez originally listed the gated Los Angeles compound for $6.495 million on May 1, with approximately 11,500 square feet of living space, six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
Gomez paid $4.895 million for the property in March 2020. Her reported $5.4 million sale price is therefore approximately $505,000 above what she paid, although that difference does not account for commissions, taxes, renovations, maintenance or other ownership costs.
The house offered more than celebrity provenance and an unusually enthusiastic bathroom count. Its kitchen served as the backdrop for the first three seasons of Gomez’s HBO Max cooking series Selena + Chef, while late rock musician Tom Petty had the Encino residence custom-built decades earlier.
The Final Price Came in Nearly 17% Below the Ask
Gomez put the house on the market May 1 for $6.495 million. At the $5.4 million price reported by TMZ, the buyer paid $1.095 million less than the original ask, a reduction of approximately 16.9%.
The buyer’s identity was not disclosed in the initial sale report. Branden Williams and Rayni Williams of The Beverly Hills Estates represented the listing, which marketed the property as a private celebrity compound in Encino’s Rancho enclave.
The approximately 0.87-acre property sits at the end of a long gated driveway and contains 11,483 square feet of interior space, according to the listing. It was initially listed in May, later moved into pending and contingent status, and ultimately sold after several months on the market.
The ‘Selena + Chef’ Kitchen Had Marble Islands and a Copper Hood
One of the estate’s most recognizable spaces is its sprawling kitchen, where Gomez learned recipes remotely from professional chefs during the pandemic-era episodes of Selena + Chef.
The room features marble islands, a copper range hood and a dramatic brick arch over the cooking area. Viewers also became familiar with the kitchen’s open layout as Gomez worked through recipes, mistakes and the occasional minor kitchen disaster on camera.
Selena + Chef premiered on HBO Max in August 2020, only months after Gomez purchased the Encino property. Her own home served as the show’s setting throughout its first three seasons.
Production moved elsewhere for Season 4 in 2022. Gomez and the series relocated to a Malibu beach house, leaving behind the Encino kitchen that had become one of the show’s most familiar visual features.
Tom Petty Had the Encino Home Custom-Built
The property’s musical history stretches back decades before Gomez bought it. Tom Petty and his then-wife Jane Benyo had the house custom-built in 1989 after an earlier residence on the property was destroyed by an arson fire.
The current listing coverage from Elle Decor describes Gomez’s later updates as modernizing the estate while preserving its distinctive architecture.
Beyond its main living room, formal dining room and kitchen, the house includes a lower level with a wine cellar, gym, massage room, glam room, workspace, second kitchen and vocal booth.
The main floor contains one primary suite, while an additional primary suite and four other bedroom suites are located elsewhere in the house. The official listing counts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms in total.
A Waterfall and Stream Feed Into the Backyard Pool
The residence sits on nearly an acre surrounded by mature trees and landscaping designed to screen the house from neighboring properties. Outside, a cascading waterfall and stream flow into the swimming pool and spa. The grounds also include a cabana with a bar, fire pit and al fresco dining space.
Those outdoor amenities form part of what the listing describes as the property’s park-like setting, with the long private driveway adding another layer of separation from the street.
Gomez no longer needed the Encino property after making a significantly more expensive real-estate move with Benny Blanco. Property records reviewed by Realtor.com show the couple paid $35 million for a Beverly Hills estate on Dec. 4, 2024, exactly one week before Gomez publicly announced their engagement.
