Sienna Spiro canceled her scheduled Newport Jazz Festival performance after an infection left her unable to sing, only one day after she appeared at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
The 20-year-old British singer announced the cancellation through Instagram Stories on August 2.
According to Just Jared’s report on her statement, Spiro said she was following her doctor’s instructions after completely losing her voice.
She apologized particularly to listeners who had traveled to Rhode Island and said she was heartbroken to miss a festival she had anticipated for months.
A Doctor Advised Spiro Not to Perform
“Newport, I’m so sorry to have to do this, but under doctor’s orders I won’t be performing at Newport Jazz Festival today,” Spiro wrote. “I’ve completely lost my voice due to an infection, and unfortunately I’m not able to put on the show you all deserve.”
Spiro said she was especially sorry for supporters who had made travel plans and promised to make the disappointment up to them as soon as she could.
Rova described her condition as a throat infection, although Spiro’s own statement did not disclose a more specific diagnosis, an expected recovery period or whether she had required treatment beyond vocal rest.
She Had Performed at Lollapalooza One Day Earlier

Spiro performed at Chicago’s Lollapalooza on August 1, where she delivered a set at Grant Park before sharing photographs from the appearance. “Blown away Lollapalooza. Thank you,” she wrote alongside the images.
Spiro had been scheduled to perform August 2 during the final day of the Newport Jazz Festival at Fort Adams State Park in Rhode Island. The sold-out festival ran from July 31 through August 2, with a lineup that included Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Little Simz, Gary Clark Jr. and Arlo Parks.
The Cancellation Interrupts a Breakout Summer
The missed performance came one month after Spiro released her debut album, Visitor, through Capitol Records on July 3. The 10-song album includes “Die on This Hill,” “The Visitor,” “You Stole the Show” and “Great Expectation.”
Its three previously released singles had all appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 by the time the project was announced. Spiro described Visitor as an album shaped by her fear of impermanence and of people and relationships disappearing from her life.
“Making this album really taught me how to savor things in the moment, instead of constantly worrying about the future,” she said in the album’s official announcement.
Outside Lands Remains Her Next Scheduled Appearance
Spiro had not announced any changes to her later performances when she disclosed the Newport cancellation. Her official itinerary lists Outside Lands in San Francisco on August 8 as her next scheduled festival appearance. She is also booked for All Things Go in September and the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.
Her My House Tour is scheduled to begin October 13 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium before visiting cities including Atlanta, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle and Vancouver.
The North American run is set to conclude November 10 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, with international dates scheduled to begin in Tokyo in January 2027.
