Asked how much he would contribute to his daughter Sophia’s wedding, Sylvester Stallone answered with a joke about his working future: “I can’t retire.”
The 80-year-old delivered the line during his Oct. 13 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, according to PEOPLE. As the studio audience laughed, he added, “I’m serious!” He did not disclose a dollar amount.
Sophia, 30, announced her engagement to Michael Sheehan on Aug. 28.
She is the eldest of Stallone’s three daughters with Jennifer Flavin, whom he married in 1997. The couple also share Sistine and Scarlet.

Sheehan approached Stallone before proposing, the actor told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. Stallone recalled that his future son-in-law seemed confident, while Flavin was present to act as a “referee,” according to HOLA!.
Ripa joked that asking the action star for his blessing must have been terrifying. Consuelos imagined Sheehan making the request in the hesitant style of Rocky Balboa’s proposal to Adrian in Rocky II.
Stallone joined in with a promise about married life: “I won’t leave no hair in the sink.” He also recalled wishing Sheehan good luck when they discussed the proposal.

Sophia’s photographs showed her hugging Sheehan as the two knelt among candles and white roses. Other frames captured them smiling on a balcony and kissing with her engagement ring visible, according to PEOPLE’s original report.
“Forever with my best friend ♾️,” she wrote. Sistine responded enthusiastically in the comments, calling them her favorite people, while Scarlet congratulated the couple in an all-capital message.

Stallone shared his own photographs after Sophia’s announcement. One showed him standing beside his daughter as she displayed her ring; another brought Sheehan and Flavin into the picture.
“We are so ecstatic about the engagement of our daughter Sophia to Michael!” he wrote, as Parade reported on Aug. 29.
During his Sept. 27 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Stallone stumbled over the word “engaged” while discussing Sophia. He explained that accepting it was time for his daughter to have a life of her own was difficult, according to PEOPLE’s September coverage.
When Fallon suggested that dating one of his daughters could be intimidating, Stallone agreed. But he said he liked Sheehan very much: “I think he’s a stand-up guy, great, good-looking, got everything going.”
His Current Work Includes Sharing the Screen With Daughter Scarlet
Stallone’s Live appearance also covered Tulsa King, in which Scarlet plays Spencer alongside her father’s Dwight Manfredi.
At PaleyFest NY on Oct. 10, Scarlet told PEOPLE that working together had changed their relationship. She said his busy career previously limited their time together, while the series had allowed them to grow closer as friends.
Her character becomes a series regular in the fourth season, which premieres Oct. 16 on Paramount+.
