Tyler Hubbard’s family camping trip took a painful turn when a barbed fish hook became lodged in the back of his scalp before breakfast.
The 39-year-old country singer shared footage of the mishap on Instagram on July 26.
His wife, Hayley Hubbard, worked the hook free with a pair of pliers while their three children watched, asked questions and offered encouragement.
Hubbard did not explain how the hook became embedded. He remained remarkably calm throughout the removal, even as Hayley discovered that the barbs were making the process more difficult.

“Are there any tricks to this?” she asked while carefully adjusting it. One of their children wanted to know whether Hubbard was bleeding. He calmly explained that there might be a small amount of blood, while another offered some practical reassurance.
“Dad, just don’t think about it,” the child said. “Mom is just going to pull it out right away.” Hayley continued encouraging her husband as she worked, telling him that he was “doing great” and being “so brave.”
Hubbard admitted that the injury hurt, but he stayed still as Hayley tried to find an angle that would allow her to remove the hook without leaving part of it behind.
The couple shares daughter Olivia Rose, 8, and sons Luca Reed, 6, and Atlas Roy, 5. All three children joined them on the camping trip.
The Hook’s Barbs Made It Difficult to Remove
Hayley initially attempted to loosen the hook with her hands before reaching for pliers. “You can tell those little barbs really work,” she observed. “Yep, they really work,” Hubbard replied.
After several careful adjustments, Hayley warned him that she was ready to pull. She successfully extracted the entire hook and announced, “Oh, we got it!”
He posted the footage with the understated caption, “Breakfast had to wait…” Hayley explained in an Instagram Story that she had been cooking when her husband called for help.
Hayley Said the Camping Memories Were Worth the Work

Hayley later shared a separate video documenting the rest of the family’s vacation. She explained that they had found four free days during a busy summer and decided to spend them camping in an Airstream.
Hayley acknowledged the packing, loading and unpacking required for a family camping trip but said the memories made the effort worthwhile. She ended her post with a reference to the unexpected injury: “Next time we’ll try to avoid fish hooks in the head.”
The Mishap Followed Florida Georgia Line’s Reunion
The family trip came during a significant period in Hubbard’s music career. He and Brian Kelley recently reunited as Florida Georgia Line for performances at CMA Fest in Nashville, four years after stepping away from the duo to pursue separate careers.
Hubbard has since said that he and Kelley have been spending time together again and discussing additional performances. “We’re kind of itching to get back on stage, so we’ll probably put some shows together next year,” Hubbard told Chicago country station US99. “That’s about as much as we’ve planned at this point.”
