Tyra Banks Reveals Why She Still Has ‘Beef’ With ‘Halloween: Resurrection’ Nearly 25 Years Later

Tyra Banks has no warm memories of making Halloween: Resurrection, nearly a quarter-century after Michael Myers added her to his long list of victims.

Asked by Entertainment Weekly whether she looks back fondly on the 2002 sequel, Banks answered, “No. Not even a little bit. Like, not even a tiny bit.”

Banks played Nora Winston, a producer working with Busta Rhymes’ Freddie Harris on DangerTainment, a live internet broadcast that sends college students into Michael Myers’ childhood home. Nora remains outside the house monitoring the production until Michael reaches her too.

By then, Banks had already appeared in John Singleton’s Higher Learning, Coyote Ugly and the Disney movie Life-Size. She was still trying to build an acting career separate from modeling when the eighth Halloween film came along.

Josh Hartnett’s Halloween H20 Success Helped Change Banks’ Mind

Banks initially resisted taking such a small part. “I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that.’ What is it going to do for my career? I’m a model, and I need to do things that are kind of different to get this acting career that I want,” she recalled.

Her agent, whom Banks did not identify, pointed to Josh Hartnett. The actor had appeared as John Tate in 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later during the early years of a film career that soon included The Faculty, The Virgin Suicides, Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down.

“He was like, ‘No, Josh Hartnett did Halloween, and look what he’s doing now!’” Banks said. She accepted the role believing the franchise appearance might give her acting ambitions a similar push.

Banks’ Michael Myers Death Happened Offscreen in the Final Cut

Nora does not survive Halloween: Resurrection, but audiences never see Michael kill her. The theatrical version later reveals her body hanging among electrical wires, leaving the actual attack offscreen.

“Not only did it not do anything for me, they cut the damn death scene,” Banks told EW, recalling that she had expected the role to give her an acting boost and provide “an iconic death scene that will last forever.” Neither happened in the finished film.

EW reports that footage of the deleted death has circulated online in unofficial ripped versions. The official franchise site separately documents other Nora material removed during editing, including a scene in the garage with Freddie and additional footage of Nora interviewing contestants before the DangerTainment broadcast.

“So, I have beef with Halloween 8!” Banks said with a laugh.

Television Became a Much Bigger Part of Banks’ Career

America’s Next Top Model premiered the year after Halloween: Resurrection, with Banks serving as the competition’s creator, host and executive producer. She later fronted the Emmy-winning The Tyra Banks Show and became much more closely identified with television than with the horror franchise her agent hoped might accelerate her film career.

Banks returned as Eve in Life-Size 2 in 2018 and more recently appeared in Bel-Air, the dramatic reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She has also returned to reality competition television as a judge on Project Runway.

Banks sounded very different while Halloween: Resurrection was being made. In material preserved by the official Halloween site, she admitted that horror movies frightened her and hoped appearing in one might help.

“But the minute I saw Michael Myers on the set, I couldn’t help but be spooked,” Banks said. “It’s just that his mask is so life-like and yet he’s so devoid of emotion. That got to me.”
