Usher has laughed off a bizarre online theory claiming a lookalike or even a “clone” performed in his place during his latest tour stop.
The speculation began after Usher and Chris Brown brought The R&B Tour to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on August 7.
Clips from the show circulated widely, with some viewers insisting the performer looked different from the Usher they were accustomed to seeing.
The discussion quickly escalated from questions about his appearance to unsupported claims that a body double had taken the stage. Usher responded in the comments.
Usher Asked How Fans Even Came Up With the Theory

Usher’s response appeared in a post shared by the official R&B Tour Instagram account on August 9. According to Entertainment Weekly, the singer initially responded with laughing emojis before addressing the claim directly.
“Ya’ll are funny…clone? They can’t clone this??” he wrote. In another comment, Usher asked, “How ya’ll come up with this?” before adding, “AI ain’t that advanced.”
Some Viewers Said Usher Looked Different at MetLife

The speculation centered on footage from the first MetLife Stadium concert on August 7. Usher performed in an all-white outfit while wearing a white baseball cap and sunglasses, which partially obscured his face in some of the clips circulating online.
Some viewers argued that his facial features or movements looked unfamiliar. Others claimed they could not see the hand tattoos they associated with the singer.
One viral post quoted by People declared, “Usher you can’t fool New York that’s not you bro i want my money back.” Another concertgoer wrote over a TikTok clip, “Usher, why’d you have to play us all like that last night??”.
Usher also reposted several clips from the performance to his Instagram Stories as the speculation circulated. Entertainment Weekly reported that the footage included a moment in which he removed his hat and sunglasses and performed shirtless. Usher and Brown actually played two concerts at MetLife Stadium, on August 7 and August 8. MetLife Stadium’s official schedule confirms both dates as part of their 2026 co-headlining stadium tour.
Usher Faced Similar Body-Double Speculation in 2024
This is not the first time online viewers have questioned whether Usher himself was appearing in concert footage. Similar rumors circulated during his Past Present Future tour in 2024 after the singer suffered a neck injury during rehearsals.
The injury forced Usher to postpone the tour’s first three scheduled performances in Atlanta. He said at the time that physical therapy and medical treatment had not allowed him to recover quickly enough and that doctors instructed him not to perform that week.
When he subsequently returned to the stage, some social-media users questioned footage from the concerts and floated body-double theories, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Usher and Brown now move on from their two MetLife Stadium shows to Toronto, where The R&B Tour is scheduled for August 11 and 12 at Rogers Stadium.
