Ariana Grande gave the Ricky Alvarez line in “Thank U, Next” one final rewrite as she closed the Eternal Sunshine tour in London.
During her September 1 show at the O2 Arena, Grande replaced the original ending with, “I’m tryna make him my last.” Her dancers celebrated around her as the audience reacted to the change.
It was the fourth version Grande had sung about Alvarez during the tour. The pair, who dated from 2015 to 2016, reconnected this summer and made their rekindled relationship Instagram official in August.
Grande has not announced an engagement or wedding plans with Alvarez. The performance came during the 41st and final show of her first concert tour since 2019, which ended with a 10-night run at the O2.

The original 2018 recording follows Alvarez’s name with, “Now I listen and laugh.” Grande began changing that ending during the Austin leg of the Eternal Sunshine tour.
On June 24, she sang, “And they still kinda slap.” Two days later, during her June 26 birthday show at Austin’s Moody Center, she changed it to, “I know he’s still got my back.” Alvarez was watching from the VIP pit and turned toward a friend after hearing the new version, according to PEOPLE.
Grande changed the line again at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on July 13, singing, “We always find our way back.” Wealth of Geeks covered that earlier rewrite while Grande and Alvarez were still drawing reunion speculation.
The September 1 version arrived after the relationship had become considerably less ambiguous. Grande sang that she was trying to make Alvarez her “last” during the final performance of the tour.

Grande included Alvarez in an August 12 Instagram carousel, tagging him in two photographs without making a separate relationship announcement in the caption.
One photo showed Alvarez with his arm around Grande as they wore coordinating white shirts and dark jeans, with their faces outside the frame. Another blurry mirror shot showed Grande hugging him while Alvarez held the camera.
The two first dated while Alvarez was working as one of Grande’s dancers. They split in July 2016 but remained friendly, and he began appearing around her tour again before their reconciliation became public.
The London Show Ended Grande’s 41-Date Tour
The September 1 concert also closed Grande’s first tour since 2019. The Eternal Sunshine run began June 6 in Oakland and finished after 41 shows across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, including 10 nights at London’s O2 Arena.
Grande became emotional while thanking the audience and crew during the final show. She had announced in August that she planned to step back from public-facing work after the tour.
The concert ended with “Supernatural” before Grande’s staged exit, which sent her upward toward a spacecraft as the final night came to a close.
