Ariana Grande has released “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” a new single from her upcoming album Petal, just days before she returns to the road.
The song arrived Friday, May 29, ahead of Petal, which is scheduled for release July 31 through Republic Records. PEOPLE described the track as a vulnerable new release from Grande’s next album cycle.
The timing gives the single a bigger launch than a standard album preview. Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour begins June 6 at Oakland Arena in Oakland, California, and is scheduled to run through Sept. 1 at The O2 in London.
The Song Starts the Next “Petal” Push
“Hate That I Made You Love Me” is a quieter opening move for Grande’s next album chapter. Pitchfork reported that Grande co-wrote and produced the song with Ilya and Max Martin.
PEOPLE reported that the song moves through fame, projection, and the expectations placed on public women. That gives the release a sharper edge than a simple love-song rollout, especially as Grande returns to live performance after years focused heavily on acting and screen work.
The official Apple Music listing identifies Petal as a 13-song pre-release album due July 31. The listing names Republic Records and Babydoll Music on the release.
The Video Adds Justin Long to the Rollout
The music video for “Hate That I Made You Love Me” is scheduled to premiere Monday, June 1. PEOPLE reported that Grande shared a teaser on Instagram featuring actor Justin Long.
Long gives the first full visual from Petal a separate pop-culture hook. He is better known for film and television work than music-video appearances, which makes his casting stand out before the video arrives.
Pitchfork also reported that the release includes a comic book-inspired lyric video, giving fans a visual piece before the official music video premieres.
“Petal” Follows “Eternal Sunshine”
Petal will be Grande’s follow-up to Eternal Sunshine, which arrived in 2024 and was later expanded with deluxe material.
Grande announced Petal in April and described the title as a symbol of growth through difficulty. PEOPLE reported that she called it “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.”
Pitchfork reported that the album is executive produced and co-written by Grande and Ilya, who has worked with her since “Problem” in 2014.
The Tour Begins Before the Album Arrives
The tour page lists Grande’s first show for June 6 at Oakland Arena. The run is scheduled to end Sept. 1 at The O2 in London.
The O2’s event page lists 10 London shows across August and September, including dates on Aug. 15, 16, 19, 20, 23, 24, 27, 28, 31 and Sept. 1.
The tour begins nearly eight weeks before Petal arrives, which means Grande may bring parts of the new album to the stage before the full project is released.
