Benny Blanco says Selena Gomez gave him a chance to step back before their private relationship became public knowledge.
People reported that Blanco discussed the early months of his romance with Gomez in a new interview with Spanish newspaper El País.
Just Jared also covered the comments, noting that Blanco said the couple kept the relationship private for about eight or nine months.
Their romance became public in December 2023 and has since turned into one of Gomez’s most closely watched relationships.
Gomez Asked If He Was Sure

Blanco said Gomez understood what public attention around their relationship could bring. Before they went public, he recalled that she asked whether he was sure he wanted to move forward, and even said she would understand if he preferred they remain friends.
Blanco said he decided to go for it, adding that both he and Gomez were lucky to have close friends and family who knew them before the fame around their relationship became louder.
Blanco said he does not like exposing his private life and described celebrity scrutiny as difficult to navigate. He also said he would like more privacy, but understands that Gomez has dealt with intense public attention for much of her life.
The Couple Is Now Married
Gomez and Blanco married in September 2025, nearly two years after they went public. People reported that Blanco’s new interview also comes as he promotes his Spanish-language album Hermoso, which is expected to be released in August.
Hermoso, Blanco’s Spanish-language album, is scheduled for release on Aug. 14.
