Céline Dion’s return to full concerts has produced a residency record. Her Paris engagement grossed $125.5 million across 16 performances, surpassing U2’s Sphere residency for average ticket revenue per show.

The 58-year-old singer performed at Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, outside Paris, from September 12 through October 17. The venue was previously known as Paris La Défense Arena.

According to Billboard’s October 29 Boxscore report, the concerts sold 539,000 tickets. The reported gross represents box-office revenue before expenses and other deductions, not Dion’s personal earnings.

The results follow years in which returning to a sustained concert schedule remained uncertain. Dion’s comeback required her to carry full arena shows again after the pandemic and health problems interrupted her performing career.

Dion’s Nightly Gross Surpasses U2 at the Sphere

Each Paris performance averaged approximately $7.8 million, ahead of U2’s $6.1 million at the Las Vegas Sphere, according to Entertainment Weekly. Average attendance reached 33,700, compared with Billy Joel’s previous residency benchmark of about 18,600 at Madison Square Garden.

The larger venue helped make those audiences possible. Dion’s earlier Las Vegas productions played the approximately 4,000-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace, while the Paris arena accommodates crowds numbering in the tens of thousands.

Her Vegas residencies still hold Boxscore’s top two positions for total revenue. A New Day…, which ran from 2003 to 2007, grossed $385.1 million. Celine, staged from 2011 to 2019, generated $296.2 million. Paris has yet to enter the cumulative top 10. Billboard Canada

Her Return Followed Years Away From Full Concerts

Dion announced the comeback in a video released on March 30, her 58th birthday. She told fans she was feeling strong and excited, while acknowledging that she was nervous about performing again.

Her previous full concert had taken place in Newark, New Jersey, on March 8, 2020. The COVID-19 shutdown initially paused her Courage World Tour. She disclosed her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in December 2022, and the remaining tour dates were canceled in 2023.

The rare neurological condition can cause muscle stiffness and painful spasms. Dion has described its effects on her movement and singing, with the 2024 documentary I Am: Céline Dion showing some of the difficulties she faced during treatment. She performed Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony that July.

Ten More Paris Shows Are Scheduled for May

Dion is scheduled to return to the same arena for 10 concerts between May 8 and May 29, 2027. Those performances are separate from the completed leg covered by the latest financial report.

The additional dates were announced June 1, before the residency began. Her team said the extension would give more previously registered fans an opportunity to attend after demand for the initial shows exceeded available tickets.

The production features songs from Dion’s French and English catalogs, with creative direction by Willo Perron and her band led by longtime musical director Scott Price.

The schedule published by CelineDion.com includes Wednesday, Friday and Saturday performances. Authorized sellers include the arena, AXS France, Ticketmaster France, Fnac Spectacles and Event Travel, with tickets subject to availability.
