Emma Roberts shared one of the most personal moments of her wedding with her 5-year-old son, Rhodes, who walked beside her as she made her way toward Cody John.
Roberts welcomed Rhodes with her former partner Garrett Hedlund in December 2020.
The actress married John during an outdoor ceremony at his family’s home near Sun Valley, Idaho, on July 25. According to People, Rhodes wore a white suit and held his mother’s hand as their friends and relatives watched from seats surrounding the flower-lined aisle.
Roberts and John were introduced by a mutual friend and went on their first date in May 2022. They made their relationship public later that year before announcing their engagement through Instagram in July 2024.

Wedding photographs showed Roberts and Rhodes walking hand-in-hand toward John, who waited in a custom chocolate-brown Ferragamo tuxedo. Guests shaded themselves from the bright summer sun with white umbrellas as the mother and son crossed the outdoor ceremony space. Rhodes also wore green sneakers with his formal suit.
Roberts walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which she and John have described as their favorite movie.
John’s brother-in-law, Luke Proskine, officiated the ceremony beside a flowing creek and floral arrangements created to complement the natural surroundings. Roberts and John wrote their vows separately and did not read them before the wedding. She later said the promises unexpectedly contained overlapping ideas, making the exchange feel particularly personal.
Eric Roberts Did Not Attend the Wedding
Roberts’ father, actor Eric Roberts, was not present at the ceremony. His absence attracted attention after photographs revealed that Rhodes had accompanied the bride down the aisle.
Eric confirmed that he did not attend but did not provide a reason or criticize his daughter’s wedding plans. “I love my daughter, always have, always will,” he said in a statement quoted by Page Six. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants,” he added.

Roberts wore a custom Monique Lhuillier gown created from 25 yards of silk chiffon in a specially developed shade called vintage rose, a reference to the actress’ middle name.
During her final fitting documented by Vogue, Roberts explained that she wanted a vintage-inspired dress rather than a traditional bright-white gown. “I kind of wanted to look like a ghost, a little antique ghost doll,” she said.
The finished design featured a lightly visible corseted bodice, layered skirt, removable shawl accented with French lace and a chapel-length veil. A separate lace voilette could cover Roberts’ eyes or be pushed back like a headband.
Lhuillier said the gown took nine months and nearly 1,000 hours to complete. Its removable pieces allowed Roberts to alter the silhouette throughout the celebration. For the afterparty, she changed into an archival two-piece look from Lhuillier’s fall 2004 collection featuring a black Chantilly-lace corset and a layered silk-organza skirt.
Family and Friends Gathered in Sun Valley
Roberts and John held the wedding at his family’s home, returning to the Idaho destination where they became engaged in July 2024. Her aunt Julia Roberts attended with her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder.
Other guests included Sarah Paulson, Demi Moore, Kristen Stewart, Billie Lourd and Ashley Benson. The weekend began with a rehearsal dinner at The Kneadery and a welcome party at Roundhouse, a mountain restaurant reached by gondola.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds shared their first dance to Ryan Adams’ “Dancing When the Stars Go Blue.” The celebration later continued at a local bar with country music and custom pink Jell-O shots.
