Harry Styles has reportedly brought John Wilson behind the scenes of his Madison Square Garden residency for a new documentary.

The filmmaker has been recording the singer since August, according to two sources cited by Variety.

Universal Pictures Content Group, Peanut World Pictures and Styles are reportedly producing the project, with UPCG set to hold worldwide rights.

A theatrical release through Universal is being considered, but distribution plans remain unsettled. A premiere date and streaming home have not been announced.

Fans Have Spotted Wilson Filming Beyond the Stage

One source described a film mixing live performances with personal stories involving Styles, his fans and the people working backstage.

Fans recognized Wilson carrying a camera while following Styles through New York, prompting speculation about what they were making. A concertgoer also shared a photograph of Wilson interviewing her, Vulture reported.

Representatives for Styles, Wilson and Universal did not immediately comment when Variety published its report.

Styles’ New York Residency Continues Through Halloween

The 30-show New York engagement opened on August 26 and finishes on October 31. It is the Together, Together tour’s only U.S. stop in 2026 and the location with the most performances on its itinerary.

The run supports Styles’ fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., released in March. His shows take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Madison Square Garden has organized themed photo stations, specialty food and drinks, and merchandise offerings around the engagement. Its Café 30 concession stand includes a menu created for the concerts.

The scale also builds on Styles’ previous visits: he played 15 shows at the arena during his 2022 Love on Tour run.

Six performances remain on the venue’s published calendar: October 21, 23, 24, 28, 30 and 31.

Wilson Built His Career Around New York’s Everyday Stories

Wilson is best known for How To with John Wilson, which ran for three seasons on HBO from 2020 to 2023. He served as both cameraman and narrator, documenting fellow New Yorkers while trying to answer everyday questions.

The final season tackled subjects including finding a public restroom, working out and cleaning your ears.

His first feature, The History of Concrete, followed another unlikely idea: applying lessons from a Hallmark filmmaking workshop to a documentary about concrete. Its credits also include Peanut World Pictures, according to the Visions du Réel film festival.

The film received four Critics Choice Documentary Awards nominations on October 13, for documentary feature, first documentary feature, editing and narration. Cori Wapnowska received the editing nomination, while Wilson wrote and performed the narration.

His Bon Iver Video Began With a Request for Smiles

Wilson’s connection to music predates the Styles project. On February 14, 2025, Bon Iver released his video for “Everything Is Peaceful Love.”

Justin Vernon wanted it to feature people smiling and experiencing happiness, according to the artist’s announcement through Shore Fire Media.

The suggestion to contact Wilson came from artist Eric Timothy Carlson. Vernon praised the HBO series, and Wilson responded to the idea.

The video accompanied the lead single from SABLE, fABLE, Bon Iver’s first new album in six years. Vernon saw its joyful images as an expression of the feeling he wanted listeners to take from the record.

“He went out, shot a bunch of fun stuff, and edited it all to the song,” Vernon said.
