Marivel and Frankie were watching Harry Styles perform at Madison Square Garden when Frankie got down on one knee. Less than three weeks later, the newly engaged couple appeared beside the singer in the music video for “Coming Up Roses,” the song playing during the proposal.

Styles, 32, released the clip on October 26. It’s the fourth music video from his album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., following “Aperture,” “American Girls” and “Dance No More.”

“Meeting Harry Styles and being in the Coming Up Roses music video is something we never imagined,” Marivel wrote on Instagram, according to The Independent.

The singer had announced the release during his October 24 concert, quietly telling the crowd, “‘Coming Up Roses’ video on Monday,” while seated at his piano, as Billboard reported. The announcement came during the 27th night of his New York residency.

Marivel and Frankie Join the Group Photo After Styles’ Ballroom Lesson

The video begins in an old-fashioned ballroom, where Styles joins a beginners’ dance class. Among his fellow students are a bride, a waitress and a cowboy. He moves through a series of partners as the group practices a waltz, sometimes dancing with someone and sometimes finding himself alone.

Bradley & Pablo directed the video, with choreography by Ryan Heffington. The production filmed at the Ukrainian National Home in Jersey City, New Jersey, according to UNITED24 Media. The community center opened in September 1918, and the video’s official credits include a special thank-you to the venue.

Marivel and Frankie appear near the end, holding hands in front of a scenic mural as the class assembles for a photo. Styles comes over and puts an arm around Marivel, while the other dancers gather around the three of them.

The October 7 Proposal Drew Cheers While Styles Kept Playing

During the October 7 concert, Styles was playing the piano while facing the opposite side of the arena from the couple. Their neighbors’ cheers made him turn and look for the source of the commotion, but he continued performing, according to Rolling Stone.

After Marivel accepted, Frankie placed the ring on her finger. The couple appeared on Madison Square Garden’s large screens, with Marivel smiling and showing off the ring.

She later shared photos and clips from the evening, which was her first time seeing Styles live. In her October 10 Instagram post, Marivel thanked Frankie for the night and wrote, “Looks like you’re my forever date.”

Styles Sent White Roses and a Handwritten Congratulations

After the video’s release, Marivel shared photos from the shoot, including one of herself and Frankie posing with Styles. She also showed a large arrangement of white roses the singer had sent, accompanied by a handwritten card, as PEOPLE reported.

Styles congratulated the couple and expressed his appreciation for having played a small part in their engagement. Marivel thanked him for the flowers and praised the production team for making them feel welcome on set.

The pair also returned for another concert, where Styles spotted them in the audience and gave them a thumbs-up. Marivel shared a clip from that visit on October 25, describing an evening spent dancing and singing.

“Coming Up Roses” Began as a Christmas Song

Styles originally sat down to write something seasonal. In his Apple Music commentary, he said he wrote “Coming Up Roses” in December while attempting a Christmas song. That idea survived only the first two lines before the writing took him elsewhere.

He called the finished track “one of my favorite things I’ve ever done.” His explanation of its meaning focused on relationships that remain valuable even when they end: the things people learn about themselves, and the good a relationship can bring, needn’t depend on its lasting forever.

The piano-and-strings ballad appears on his fourth studio album, released March 6. Sony Music’s official credits list Styles as the song’s sole writer and Kid Harpoon as its producer. It is the only track on the 12-song album without a credited co-writer.

His 30-show Together, Together residency at Madison Square Garden is scheduled to finish with the Halloween-themed Harryween shows on October 30 and 31.
