Jax Taylor wants a legal end to his marriage to Brittany Cartwright while the former couple continues negotiating the terms of their divorce.
The 47-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum and Cartwright married in 2019 and share their 5-year-old son, Cruz.
Cartwright filed for divorce in August 2024, several months after publicly announcing their separation.
Taylor’s latest request was detailed in court documents obtained by Us Weekly on October 13.
Taylor Says He Wants to Move On as an Unmarried Person
Taylor’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is seeking a judgment dealing only with marital status. If granted, the procedure, known as bifurcation, would allow both spouses to become legally single while financial, property and support issues remain before the court.
“I desire to be divorced now,” Taylor said in his declaration. “I would like to move on with my life and to do so as an unmarried person.” Kaplan argues that the marriage cannot be repaired and that neither spouse benefits from keeping it legally intact.
He also says the proceedings have made little progress and that no trial date has been set, leaving his client uncertain about when the case might conclude. Taylor says he asked Cartwright to agree to separate their marital status from the remaining disputes but received no response.
He Is Also Seeking More Than $9,000 in Sanctions
According to TMZ, Taylor wants the court to order Cartwright to pay more than $9,000 in sanctions over what he alleges are delays in resolving the case.
He claims he attended a recent settlement conference ready to negotiate, while Cartwright arrived unprepared to reach an agreement.
A source close to Cartwright rejected blame for the delays in July. Speaking to Us Weekly, the source said she had participated in good faith and wanted a fair outcome, particularly for Cruz.
The source attributed earlier postponements to unresolved financial matters and Taylor’s treatment stays. Kaplan, meanwhile, maintained that Taylor had been trying to bring the proceedings to a conclusion.
They Reached a Custody and Child-Support Agreement in March
Court documents reported by PEOPLE in March established joint legal custody of Cruz and a parenting schedule giving Taylor alternate weekends and Wednesday nights. Cartwright had the remaining days.
Under that agreement, neither parent would pay child support. They also set a holiday schedule and agreed to wait six months before introducing their son to a new romantic partner.
The terms included an agreement to avoid speaking negatively about each other in front of Cruz and to attempt to celebrate his birthdays together.
Both Sought Protective Orders Later in the Year
Cartwright obtained a temporary restraining order in August after alleging domestic abuse. Taylor disputed some of her allegations while acknowledging behavior he regretted.
In an August 28 statement, he said he had sought treatment and remained committed to therapy and sobriety. He said the disputed allegations and supporting evidence would be addressed in court.
On September 1, Us Weekly reported that a judge had partly granted Taylor’s own request for a temporary restraining order against Cartwright. Other portions were denied because the judge said a hearing was necessary to make an adequate ruling.
Taylor Confirmed His Relationship With Former Publicist Lori Krebs

Taylor publicly confirmed his romance with Lori Krebs in August. She previously represented both him and Cartwright and had been close to the former couple during their marriage.
In an interview outside a Los Angeles gym, reported by Page Six, Taylor said the relationship had helped his mental health. “You can’t help who you fall in love with. Everybody deserves to find happiness,” he said.
Cartwright described Krebs as someone she had considered like a sister for a decade. During an August appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she said discovering the relationship had been heartbreaking because of their longstanding personal and professional connection.
