Jelly Roll has traded the concert stage for Jimmy Kimmel’s desk, taking over Jimmy Kimmel Live! for four nights this week.
The country star is guest-hosting the ABC late-night show from Monday, August 24, through Thursday, August 27. Last Night On reported the temporary handoff as the program approaches the end of its annual summer guest-host rotation.
ABC’s official schedule pairs Jelly Roll with Glen Powell, Jay Shetty, Henry Winkler, Leanne Morgan, Stevie Nicks, Nathan Fillion, Juicy J, Project Pat, Lecrae, Leslie Mann and Bert Kreischer across the four episodes.
Despite the usual late-night language about someone “taking over,” Jelly Roll is not replacing Kimmel permanently. Kimmel began his planned summer break after his June 18 broadcast, with a rotating group of guest hosts taking over new episodes beginning in July.
Jelly Roll Opened His Run With Glen Powell and Jay Shetty
Jelly Roll began his second stint as a Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest host Monday with Glen Powell and Jay Shetty as his first guests. Powell appeared to promote the second season of Chad Powers, while Shetty joined the show in connection with his On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. Singer-songwriter Sara Niemietz sat in with the Cletones, the show’s house band.
Jelly Roll also quickly demonstrated that he was willing to take on the kind of topical monologue normally associated with Kimmel. He joked about President Donald Trump’s appearance at the Freedom 250 IndyCar race in Washington, D.C., before turning Trump’s reported weight gain into material about his own dramatic weight loss.
“I’ve lost 300 pounds,” Jelly Roll told the audience, according to TheWrap. He then joked that the number meant he had “lost an entire Donald Trump.” During congressional testimony in 2024, he described himself as having “no political alliance” and said he was neither a Democrat nor a Republican.
Stevie Nicks, Henry Winkler and Nathan Fillion Are Still to Come
ABC has already laid out the remaining three nights of Jelly Roll’s run. Tuesday’s episode pairs him with Henry Winkler, who is promoting Hazardous History with Henry Winkler, and Leanne Morgan, appearing for her Netflix comedy Leanne. Stevie Nicks is the night’s musical guest, with Niemietz again joining the Cletones.
Wednesday brings Nathan Fillion to discuss Lanterns and The Rookie. Juicy J and Project Pat are also booked to discuss “Dem Goats” before performing with Lecrae.
Leslie Mann and Bert Kreischer close Jelly Roll’s scheduled run Thursday. Mann is promoting Spa Weekend, while Kreischer will discuss Bert Kreischer’s Fully Loaded At Sea 2026. Niemietz is scheduled to sit in with the house band on all four nights.
His First Guest-Hosting Run Ended With Logan Paul Going Through the Desk
Jelly Roll is considerably less new to Kimmel’s chair than he was a year ago. He made his late-night hosting debut on July 16, 2025, beginning his monologue with a request for patience from the audience. “If I really suck bad, y’all just remember, my name is Post Malone,” he joked, according to PEOPLE.
That first episode featured Jeremy Renner and WWE star Randy Orton, but the most memorable moment came when wrestling promotion spilled into the talk-show set.
Drew McIntyre interrupted Jelly Roll’s interview with Orton, setting off a staged confrontation connected to their upcoming SummerSlam match. Logan Paul then appeared, and Jelly Roll ultimately chokeslammed him through Kimmel’s desk.
The stunt was promoting Jelly Roll and Orton’s SummerSlam tag-team match against Paul and McIntyre. Jelly Roll returned for a second episode the following night, July 17, with Kevin James and NASCAR driver Joey Logano among the guests. The All-American Rejects performed.
Kimmel Announced the Summer Handoff in June
Kimmel announced his annual break during the June 18 episode, joking that he would take the next two months off “this time voluntarily.” ABC subsequently announced that Tiffany Haddish would begin the summer guest-host run on July 6, followed at various points by Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo and Jelly Roll.
Rosie O’Donnell was later added to the rotation and handled the four original episodes immediately before Jelly Roll’s week. Kimmel remains the show’s host and an executive producer while the substitutes temporarily occupy his desk.
