Jim Carrey is married again. The 64-year-old actor recently wed longtime girlfriend Min Ah in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles, according to TMZ.
Carrey’s representative confirmed the marriage to PEOPLE on Sept. 30. The couple has not disclosed the wedding date, venue or guest list.
Min Ah is Carrey’s third wife. He was married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995 and to his Dumb and Dumber costar Lauren Holly from 1996 to 1997. Carrey and Womer share a daughter, Jane.
Carrey and Min Ah had been photographed together by February 2022, when they were seen leaving a charity comedy show hosted by Judd Apatow at Largo in Los Angeles. Neither has publicly said when the relationship began.
Carrey Called Min Ah His ‘Sublime Companion’ at the César Awards
Min Ah accompanied Carrey to the 51st César Awards in Paris on Feb. 26, where he received the César d’Honneur. His daughter Jane and grandson Jackson were seated with her during the ceremony.
Carrey delivered his acceptance speech in French. After thanking Jane and Jackson, he turned to Min Ah. “Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah,” he said, according to Variety. “I love you, Min Ah.”
He finished the family portion of the speech by thanking his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, whom he called the funniest man he had ever known. Carrey credited his father with teaching him about love, generosity and laughter.
Carrey Said He Preferred His ‘Quiet Life’ in 2022
Carrey was already talking about spending less time in Hollywood during the same year he and Min Ah were first photographed together. While promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in April 2022, he told Access Hollywood that he was “fairly serious” about retiring from acting.
He described painting and his spiritual life as priorities and said he enjoyed living away from the constant demands of the industry. “I really like my quiet life,” Carrey said. “I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
Carrey left himself an exception for a project he considered important enough to return for. He later reprised Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which was released in 2024.
He Said in 2008 That He ‘Probably Won’t Get Married Again’
Marriage had sounded considerably less appealing to Carrey after his first two divorces. While he was dating Jenny McCarthy in 2008, he told Britain’s Weekend magazine, “I’m happy with Jenny. Although I probably won’t get married again. If you’ve done it twice, you really should stop doing it,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
Howard Stern returned to the subject six years later. Carrey said he did not consider marriage necessary at that point in his life, but he would not turn the opinion into a permanent rule.
“I can’t say that I know how I would feel if I meet somebody that knocks my head off,” Carrey said in the 2014 interview, according to ABC News. “I mean, I can’t make hard, fast rules about the future. But I wouldn’t voluntarily go that way.”
