Kate Gosselin responded to TikTok comments about her estranged son Collin Gosselin after he again challenged her to take a lie-detector test tied to his childhood allegations.
The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star posted a TikTok video Monday, June 29, about her rescue dog Koda and a minor foot injury. People reported that several viewers used the comments to ask about Collin, his upcoming memoir and whether Kate would respond to his public claims.
Collin, 22, recently discussed his book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, and said he wanted Kate to take a lie-detector test with him. Kate’s replies did not mention Collin by name in the video itself, but she answered several comments about the dispute.
Kate Gosselin Responded in TikTok Comments
One commenter suggested that if Kate was certain the accusations against her were false, she should sue for defamation. People reported that Kate replied, “I can’t bc I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!”
Kate also appeared to respond to a question about whether she would take a lie-detector test. According to People, her reply was: “Ha!”
In another comment, Kate wrote that “malice is one of the hardest things to prove” and said she had previously consulted a well-known Los Angeles attorney when other people were saying things about her publicly. “The rules are different for ppl in the public eye,” she wrote, according to People.

Collin recently appeared on the Strange McKnights YouTube channel to discuss his memoir and family life. People reported that he alleged Kate once used zip ties on his wrists and ankles and locked him in a basement. Collin said he planned to go into more detail in the book.
Us Weekly reported that Collin invited Kate to take a lie-detector test with him after making the allegations. He said he wanted both of them connected to equipment while they answered questions about his childhood.
The claims remain allegations. People reported that Kate’s attorney previously said he did not believe she had done anything to “intentionally harm” Collin and said she acted to protect herself and her family from what he described as troubled behavior.
Collin Posted Another Allegation After Kate’s Replies
After Kate’s TikTok comments, Collin posted another message on Instagram Stories. People reported that he alleged Kate once wrote in her diary that she had to “pray to God to stop hitting me” when he was 2 years old.
Collin wrote that using his voice to bring those things “to the light” was important, according to People. The allegation has not been tested in court in the reports cited here.
People reported that Collin previously alleged he was confined and isolated from his siblings and that Kate was physically and verbally abusive toward him. Kate has denied previous allegations, and her representatives have previously pushed back on the claims.

Collin’s memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, is scheduled for release on Oct. 13, 2026. Hachette Book Group lists the book as a 304-page hardcover from Grand Central Publishing.
Hachette’s description says Collin will write about growing up on Jon & Kate Plus 8 and about parts of his childhood he says viewers did not see. The publisher describes the book as an account of a “secret childhood lived in the gaps between the frames.”
Collin announced the memoir on Instagram on June 17. People reported that he wrote that millions watched his life on television, but “there was so much they never saw.”
The Gosselin Family Rift Has Played Out for Years
Kate and Jon Gosselin became famous through the TLC series Jon & Kate Plus 8, which followed their lives with twins Mady and Cara and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah, Joel and Collin. The couple divorced in 2009.
People reported that Kate was awarded custody of the eight children after the divorce. In 2016, she sent Collin to a behavioral health institution, later citing what she described as his “unpredictable and violent behavior.”
Two years later, Jon was awarded custody of Collin, and Collin left the program. People reported that Collin graduated from high school in 2023 alongside his sister Hannah.
Collin Also Shared a Pointed Post About Kate
On June 27, Collin shared an Instagram Story using a New York Post headline about Kate reportedly “spiraling” ahead of his memoir. People reported that he blurred Kate’s face and included a follower’s comment that read, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light.”
Entertainment Weekly also reported the post and noted that Collin and Kate have been estranged for years. EW reported that the memoir cover features a throwback photo of Kate covering Collin’s mouth.
