Kendall Jenner has finally given a direct answer to one of the longest-running rumors surrounding her friendship with Cara Delevingne. Then, almost immediately, she made sure the conversation did not become too serious.
In the Season 8 trailer for The Kardashians, released September 17, Jenner says there is “definitely a rumor” that she and Delevingne once dated. “Which is not true,” she says in the confessional, according to Just Jared.
The trailer later cuts to the longtime friends together at a L’Oréal fashion event, where Jenner brings the subject directly to Delevingne. “By the way, I have nothing against having sex with Cara,” she says.
A Season 8 trailer is centered heavily on love, new relationships and the family’s attempts to decide how much of their personal lives they want to put on camera.
Kendall Denies Dating Cara Before Making the Joke Herself
The subject begins after Caitlyn Jenner asks Kendall, “So since I never get to know, how’s the love life?” The trailer moves into Kendall’s confessional and the longstanding speculation involving Delevingne. “There’s definitely a rumor that Cara and I, like, dated,” Kendall says. “Which is not true.”
The footage later shifts to Kendall and Cara together at a L’Oréal event, where Kendall turns the rumor into a joke with her friend. She says she has “nothing against having sex with Cara” before asking, “Never say never, right?” Delevingne responds by looking toward the camera and laughing.
Their ‘CaKe’ Friendship Goes Back More Than a Decade
Kendall and Cara became close through the fashion world in the early 2010s and eventually picked up the friendship nickname “CaKe,” combining their first names. PEOPLE notes that the friendship has lasted for more than a decade even as speculation repeatedly blurred the line between friendship and romance.
Their public history includes runway appearances, fashion events and magazine moments. Kendall was among the friends who appeared in Vogue’s 2015 video celebrating Cara’s first solo U.S. Vogue cover.
Kendall has also credited Delevingne with helping change what was possible for her when she entered high fashion. In a 2024 Vogue interview, she said Cara was one of the rare models at the time who was already widely known outside the industry and that she “opened that door” for what came next.
The pair have continued working in the same fashion circles. Both walked L’Oréal Paris’ Le Défilé show during Paris Fashion Week in September 2025, with Getty Images documenting them together on the runway.
Kendall Had Already Addressed Broader Rumors About Her Sexuality
During the January 9 episode of In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele, she said one part of the internet had become convinced she was secretly a lesbian and criticized what she viewed as the hostile tone behind some of that speculation.
Jenner said she does not identify as gay and explained that, knowing herself, she believed she would be open about it if she did. “As of today, I am not,” she said, while adding that she was “not closing doors to experiences in life.”
Season 8 of The Kardashians premieres October 8 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the United States, with Disney+ carrying the season internationally.
