Kim Kardashian plans to take the California bar exam again. At the November 2 premiere of All’s Fair in New York City, she told People she wants to wait until she has “some free time to focus on it.” She hasn’t announced a date for her next attempt.
Kardashian plays divorce attorney Allura Grant in the Hulu drama. Her co-star Sarah Paulson, standing beside her on the red carpet, offered a prediction about her prospects offscreen. “She’s going to be a great lawyer,” Paulson said. “She will.”
Kardashian, 46, has four children, runs SKIMS and films her family’s reality series, The Kardashians. Her latest projects also include The Fifth Wheel, a Netflix comedy she’s producing and starring in for director Eva Longoria.
She has a particular kind of legal work in mind. On The Graham Norton Show in October 2025, while she was still waiting for her results, Kardashian imagined what she might be doing in 10 years. She could see herself stepping away from reality TV to work as a trial lawyer.
Why Kardashian Announced Her Bar Exam Result Herself
Kardashian took the full California bar exam over two days in July 2025. She learned on Friday, November 7, that she had fallen short. California was due to publish the names of those who passed on Sunday. As she later told Time, she wanted people to hear the news from her first.
On Saturday, she posted the result on Instagram Stories. She said she had come close to passing, though she kept the score to herself. Before taking the exam, she’d figured she had the time and energy to try it once. “But the day after, I started studying again and haven’t stopped,” she told Complex.
The Baby Bar Took Kardashian Four Attempts
Kardashian began a legal apprenticeship in 2018, the year she met with President Donald Trump on behalf of Alice Marie Johnson. Johnson had spent nearly 22 years in federal prison when Trump commuted her life sentence that June. Kardashian later told Vogue that she could explain the human cost of a sentence in those meetings, but she relied on the attorneys beside her for the legal details. She wanted to be able to do both.
By the time she announced her plans in April 2019, Kardashian had been traveling to San Francisco to study with attorneys Jessica Jackson and Erin Haney. The State Bar of California requires four years of supervised legal study through its Law Office Study Program. One hurdle along the way was the First-Year Law Students’ Examination, better known as the baby bar.
After three unsuccessful attempts, Kardashian passed the October 2021 exam and shared the news that December. She said her late father, Robert Kardashian, who had served on O.J. Simpson’s defense team, would have been her best study partner. She celebrated completing her apprenticeship in May 2025, two months before she sat for the full bar.
All’s Fair Gives Allura Grant a Bar Exam Story of Her Own
Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s legal drama opened November 4 with three episodes on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers. Allura is back at Grant, Ronson & Greene with partners Liberty Ronson (Naomi Watts) and Emerald Greene (Niecy Nash-Betts). The eight-episode season runs through December 2, according to Disney+.
The trailer gives Kardashian a line that could just as easily have come up at the premiere. Allura asks Milan, played by Teyana Taylor, if she’s just passed the California bar. “Guilty as charged,” Milan replies. Allura tells her, “I didn’t pass on my first try.”
