Inés Gómez Mont, the Mexican TV host who once put on a wedding dress to propose to Tom Brady at Super Bowl media day, is challenging her detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Officers detained her in Miami on October 30.

Mexico’s attorney general, Ernestina Godoy Ramos, said on November 2 that the 43-year-old presenter faces three outstanding arrest warrants in Mexico. Godoy said U.S. authorities are holding Gómez Mont over her immigration status. The United States will decide whether to deport her.

Gómez Mont was known to Mexican audiences for her work on TV Azteca’s entertainment show Ventaneando. In 2021, Mexican prosecutors sought her arrest and that of her husband, lawyer Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, in an investigation into contracts for the country’s federal prison system.

Gómez Mont denied receiving money from the contracts or belonging to an organized crime group. In a public statement that September, she said she had never stolen a peso, according to El Financiero.

What the Three Mexican Arrest Warrants Cover

One warrant concerns organized crime and money laundering. Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office alleges that money intended for the federal prison system passed through shell companies and reached Gómez Mont’s personal bank accounts. The agency put the value of those prison security contracts at about 2.45 billion Mexican pesos, roughly $130 million by EFE’s estimate.

The other two warrants concern her personal taxes. Prosecutors allege that Gómez Mont understated her income in 2014 and 2016, leaving more than 13 million pesos in taxes unpaid.

Godoy said Mexico asked the United States in September 2025 to detain Gómez Mont provisionally while it pursued extradition. In the weeks before ICE took her into custody, Mexican prosecutors shared information and copies of the warrants with U.S. officials. Godoy said her office would execute the warrants if U.S. authorities deported Gómez Mont to Mexico.

How Gómez Mont Got Tom Brady to Call on Her

The bridal outfit was her brother’s idea. Over dinner before Super Bowl XLII, Gómez Mont was trying to come up with a TV Azteca segment that would capture the atmosphere without requiring her to talk football statistics. Her brother suggested she dress as a bride and ask the players to marry her, she recalled in an interview covered by Milenio.

On January 29, 2008, in Glendale, Arizona, she asked players whether they thought Brady would say yes. Their predictions were supposed to be enough for the segment. Then the New England Patriots quarterback called on the woman in white. When she asked him to marry her, Brady, who was dating Gisele Bündchen, replied, “I’m a one-woman man,” according to the NFL.

Gómez Mont remembered cameras turning away from Brady and toward her. Her colleagues started calling as she left. Fellow reporter Inés Sainz later told interviewer Adela Micha that the stunt cost their network 10 of its 15 Super Bowl credentials, according to Infobae.

Florida Judge Sets November 4 Deadline in Detention Challenge

On November 2, ICE’s detainee locator listed Gómez Mont at the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach, Florida. On October 31, her attorney, John Patrick Pratt, filed a habeas corpus petition asking a federal judge to review the legality of her detention and release her.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey T. Kuntz declined a separate emergency request to prevent officials from moving Gómez Mont to another detention facility. He said he lacked authority to block a transfer. In a second order that day, Kuntz gave federal officials until November 4 to respond to her petition and explain why she should remain in custody, according to the court record published by Habeas Dockets.
