King Charles could face another family dilemma if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle return to the U.K. with their children in July.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to travel to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet around events tied to the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. People reported that the trip would be the family’s first joint visit to the U.K. since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The possible return has renewed questions about whether Harry will see his father while he is in the country. Royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror that a meeting between Charles and the Sussexes could be possible, but said any move toward Harry may be difficult for Prince William.
Bond described the situation as a delicate balancing act for the King. Charles may want time with his younger son and grandchildren, but William and Harry remain publicly distant.
Bond Said William Could Feel Sidelined
Bond told the Mirror that there is still “no sign” of a thaw between William and Harry. No meeting between the brothers has been announced around the possible July visit, and no official reunion between the Sussexes and the wider royal family has been confirmed.
If the King meets Harry and Meghan, Bond suggested William could feel frustrated after years of tension, especially if he believes he has remained loyal while Harry has criticized the family publicly.
Harry and William have not appeared close in public for years. Their relationship has remained one of the most closely watched parts of the wider royal rift since Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals in 2020.
Charles Has Offered Royal Accommodation

People reported that Charles has offered Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet accommodation on a royal estate during the planned visit. The Sussexes had not responded to the offer as of People’s report.
Harry and Meghan no longer have Frogmore Cottage as a U.K. base. People reported that Charles had previously offered Harry accommodation at Buckingham Palace on past visits, but Harry declined.
The possible July trip is tied to Invictus Games events ahead of Birmingham 2027. Meghan and the children have not visited the U.K. since 2022, while Harry has returned several times on his own.
Security Remains Separate From the Housing Offer
People reported that staying on a royal estate would not automatically bring extra security provisions. Protection arrangements are handled by the Home Office, not personally by Charles.
Harry has repeatedly said he does not feel safe bringing Meghan and the children to the U.K. without the level of security he believes they need. In a statement to the High Court quoted by People, he said the U.K. is central to his children’s heritage, but that “cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”
No Reunion Has Been Announced
Charles and Harry last met privately in September 2025 while Harry was in the U.K. for the WellChild Awards and Invictus Games events, according to People. The meeting lasted 55 minutes and was their first in-person conversation in 19 months.
No plan has been announced for Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet to meet William, Catherine, Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis during the July trip.
Harry has said he would like reconciliation with his family. Charles has offered a place to stay. Bond’s warning is that any step toward Harry may still leave the King managing tension with William.
