Lady Gaga can turn makeup into prosthetics, glitter, theatrical eye art or full Old Hollywood glamour. Her current everyday routine needs considerably less equipment.
The 40-year-old singer appeared makeup free in an Instagram Reel shared September 3, beginning the clip by peeling off a pink sheet mask before taking viewers through what she called her three essentials. “My holy trinity in 1 min,” she wrote.
The list is short: concealer, contour and a brown toned lip liner. Gaga applies all three herself without adding the dramatic eye makeup, lashes or bold lipstick that have defined many of her stage and red carpet looks.
One accessory requires no application at all. Her large oval engagement ring from fiancé Michael Polansky remains prominently visible while she blends the makeup with her fingers.
Gaga’s Routine Is Concealer, Contour and Lip Liner

The Reel starts with Gaga in a white T-shirt and her long blonde hair wrapped loosely around her neck. After removing the pink sheet mask, she applies concealer beneath her eyes, around her mouth and through the center of her forehead.
Next comes contour beneath her cheekbones and around her nose, eyes, forehead and jawline. She finishes by tracing the perimeter of her lips with brown liner and blending it with her finger.
InStyle noted that Gaga set the Reel to Slayyyter’s “I’m Actually Kinda Famous.” Her caption keeps the beauty instructions even shorter: “Concealer, Contour, Lipliner.”
Her Love of Makeup Started With Her Mother
Gaga has traced her fascination with makeup back to watching her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, get ready for work when she was a child. The transformation fascinated her because she associated it with her mother becoming a confident working woman before heading out into the world.
“I was really insecure as a child,” Gaga told British Vogue in 2023. Experimenting with makeup became one way she discovered confidence, and her music career later gave her a much larger canvas for using it as art.
Her mother’s beauty advice was broader than cosmetics. Gaga recalled being told simply to “take care of yourself,” which she said extends beyond appearance to health and self care.
Gaga Has Shown a One Brush Routine Before
The new three step Reel is not the first time Gaga has shown fans the less theatrical side of her makeup routine. In a 2024 Sephora tutorial, she demonstrated what the retailer described as her updated everyday makeup routine while using a single brush.
That version included more products than the September Reel and gave Gaga room to discuss her work developing Haus Labs formulas as well as the makeup itself. Sephora presented the video as a look at how she actually applies her daily makeup rather than recreating one of her performance looks.
Two years later, she has pared the demonstration down even further. The latest version takes about a minute and stops after three things: concealer, contour and lip liner.
