Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff have filed for divorce after three years of marriage. The paperwork was submitted on Friday, October 30, according to court records reviewed by The Associated Press.

A source close to the former couple told PEOPLE that ending the marriage was a “mutual decision.” The source said they continue to care deeply about each other and expect to remain friends.

Their separation first became public on July 8, with Qualley’s representative confirming the breakup two days later. Questions about the relationship had intensified after Antonoff attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding festivities without her.

Antonoff addressed the breakup in an interview with The Guardian published October 25. The conversation took place in a Denver hotel while he was on tour with Bleachers.

The case was filed in Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn. Qualley is listed as the plaintiff and Antonoff as the defendant, and the court categorizes the proceeding as an uncontested matrimonial action.

Although dissolution paperwork had been processed, a settlement agreement and the judge’s review remained pending, according to Rolling Stone. The filing does not mean their divorce has been finalized.

Financial terms have not been publicly disclosed. The couple have no children together, and their attorneys did not immediately respond to the AP’s requests for comment.

Qualley’s Representative Denied Infidelity and Trust Issues

In the statement confirming the split, Qualley’s representative rejected accounts from anonymous sources who claimed to know why the marriage had ended.

“There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity or anything outside of respect and partnership in this relationship,” the representative told Us Weekly.

The representative also challenged the sources’ familiarity with the couple, saying the people commenting publicly did not know them, and asked that their privacy be respected.

Around the same time, fans noticed that photographs from their wedding were no longer on Qualley’s Instagram account. It was unclear when she had removed them. Neither Qualley nor Antonoff has publicly provided a detailed explanation for the breakup.

Antonoff Considered Dropping Songs About Qualley From His Concerts

Bleachers released Everyone for Ten Minutes in May, with several songs inspired by Antonoff’s relationship with Qualley. Once they separated, he had to decide what to do with material written during a happier period of his life.

He considered changing the concert setlist. Doing so, however, would have conflicted with the approach he has taken throughout his career: writing openly about personal experiences and then performing those songs in front of an audience.

Antonoff described continuing to sing the material as “really beautiful,” even while acknowledging the sadness connected to the breakup. He spoke about sharing the experience with listeners who knew the songs’ history and brought their own feelings to the performances.

He also explained that he did not want to erase the happier parts of his past simply because the relationship had ended.

The Couple Married in a Star-Studded New Jersey Ceremony

Qualley and Antonoff began dating in 2021 and made their red carpet debut at the AFI Awards Luncheon in March 2022. She confirmed their engagement that May, posting photographs of the pair with her diamond ring visible.

They married on August 19, 2023, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Guests included Swift, Lana Del Rey, Zoë Kravitz, Channing Tatum and Qualley’s mother, actress Andie MacDowell.

Qualley, 32, built her acting career with projects including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Netflix’s Maid, later starring in the 2024 film The Substance. Antonoff, 42, has combined his work with Bleachers with producing and songwriting for artists including Swift, Del Rey and Sabrina Carpenter.

Their creative work also overlapped. In 2024, Qualley choreographed, co-directed and starred in the music video for Bleachers’ “Tiny Moves,” describing the project at the time as a love letter to Antonoff.
