Prince Harry has not met King Charles III since returning to Britain with Meghan Markle and their children on Aug. 26, according to new reporting from Page Six.

The outlet’s Oct. 10 report says the father and son are believed to have spoken by telephone several times, citing sources familiar with the family’s situation.

One royal insider said people close to the family hoped for a closer relationship conducted away from publicity. “It just does not help when every time they meet or speak it leaks out,” the source told the outlet.

The Sussexes intend to remain in England at least through the current school year, according to the report. They have retained their California home while Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet attend school in Britain.

Charles Has Been in Scotland Ahead of His Autumn Tour

Charles received his ceremonial welcome at Balmoral on Aug. 18. Page Six reported that he and Queen Camilla had spent much of the intervening period in Scotland, with trips to London for official business.

The King has also attended public engagements in the capital this month, including the launch of Apple and the King’s Trust’s Creative Labs at Battersea Power Station, where he joined young people taking part in a music workshop.

Buckingham Palace has announced an overseas tour running from Oct. 27 through Nov. 4. Charles will visit the Bahamas and Guyana before joining Camilla in Antigua and Barbuda for engagements including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The Sussex Family Visited Highgrove in July

Charles and Camilla welcomed Harry, Meghan and both children to Highgrove on July 10. A palace source confirmed the gathering to Reuters, describing it as a private family occasion and saying photographs, video and further details would not be released.

The visit was the King’s first meeting with his grandchildren since 2022. It took place during a British trip that included Harry’s charitable commitments, weeks before the family’s relocation plans became public in August.

The Palace Reaffirmed Their Position as Non-Working Royals

A Sept. 7 letter issued through Lord Chamberlain Lord Benyon confirmed that the couple’s return would leave their royal status unchanged. ITV reported that their HRH styles remain in abeyance, their charitable work is undertaken privately, and their office operates separately from the Royal Household.

The Sussexes’ representatives subsequently said they had received insufficient advance notice of the communication. Royal sources said their staff had been informed before publication. Wealth of Geeks previously covered the disagreement over how the letter was handled.

Government-funded protection is decided by the Home Office committee known as RAVEC. In a separate Sept. 30 statement reported by PEOPLE, the couple’s spokesperson criticized photographers seen around their children’s school, calling their conduct an intrusion into children’s privacy.

Christmas Plans Reportedly Exclude Sandringham

A source told Page Six that Harry and Meghan did not plan to join the royal family’s traditional Christmas gathering at Sandringham.

The outlet’s Oct. 9 report identified Britain and California as possible destinations for their own holiday celebrations, with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, expected to join them. It did not identify a final choice.

Harry and Meghan Are Due in Nottingham on Oct. 16

Harry attended the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in Greenwich on Sept. 17, recognizing people involved in the movement supporting wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The next Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham in 2027, the competition’s first British edition since London hosted the inaugural Games in 2014.

He also attended Leicester Tigers’ rugby match against Gloucester on Oct. 9. Some spectators booed when he appeared on the stadium screen, PEOPLE reported. Meghan did not accompany him.

PEOPLE confirmed Oct. 11 that Harry and Meghan will visit Nottingham on Oct. 16. The city hosted their first royal outing after they announced their engagement in 2017.

Planned stops include a food bank, the Community Recording Studio and youth organization Epic Partners. At the food bank, they intend to reconnect with women from the Hubb Community Kitchen whom Meghan supported while she was a working royal.
