Katherine Schwarzenegger marked her father Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 79th birthday with a collection of family memories, including a rare recent photograph of the actor sitting beside his former wife, Maria Shriver.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver are not often photographed together. However, it did not document a new birthday reunion.
The photograph was taken during a family ski vacation earlier this year and resurfaced when Katherine included it in her July 30 Instagram tribute.
In the photograph, Schwarzenegger and Shriver sit beside each other on a bench surrounded by snow. Both wear black winter jackets and sunglasses as they smile and appear to react to something happening away from the camera.
The Photo Came From an Earlier Family Ski Trip

According to E! News’ report on the image, it came from a family ski vacation in March. Katherine originally posted photographs from the trip on March 16 with the brief caption, “Fam ski club.” The carousel included snowy landscapes, skiing photographs and other moments from the family vacation.

The ski photograph was one part of a larger birthday carousel tracing Katherine’s relationship with her father across several decades. She included childhood pictures, photographs of Schwarzenegger holding her when she was young and screenshots from more recent video calls.
Another image showed the actor sitting on the same snowy bench with his son Patrick Schwarzenegger. “Happy Birthday, Dad,” Katherine wrote. “So lucky you’re ours… and even luckier our kids get you as Opa.” Katherine and her husband, Chris Pratt, share three children: daughters Lyla and Eloise and son Ford.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver Share Four Adult Children
Schwarzenegger and Shriver married in 1986 and announced their separation in 2011. Their divorce was finalized in December 2021, more than 10 years after Shriver filed. Despite ending their marriage, Schwarzenegger and Shriver have continued attending family gatherings and celebrating milestones involving their children and grandchildren.
In a February interview with People, Katherine credited both parents with teaching her the importance of making children feel unconditionally loved.
Shriver previously said she was proud that she and Schwarzenegger remained in communication, explaining that they still laugh together about their children, grandchildren and themselves. Schwarzenegger has similarly said that his chapter with Shriver “will continue on forever,” even though they now have separate lives and a different kind of relationship.
