Richard Gere says his son Homer Gere is finding his own footing as an actor.
The 76-year-old actor spoke about Homer’s early career after his son appeared in Season 3 of Euphoria, where he played Dylan Reid.
People reported that Gere called Homer “really good” and praised both his acting instincts and the way he is handling the business around the work.
Gere also joked that Homer’s momentum means he can step aside, saying, “I can retire now. I’m passing the torch.”
Gere Praised Homer’s Acting and His Temperament
Gere told People that Homer seems to understand acting naturally, but he spent just as much time talking about how his son is handling the pressure around the job.
“He’s really good,” Gere said, according to People. “He’s smart. He knows what he’s doing. It’s kind of natural for him.”
Gere said the business side of acting can be difficult and described Homer as a “good young man” who appears able to deal with it. The comment kept the focus on Homer’s steadiness rather than only his famous last name.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Gere had not yet seen one of Homer’s later Euphoria episodes when he gave the interview, but he had already seen enough to be proud of his son’s work.
Homer Gere Has More Work After Euphoria
Homer’s Euphoria role gave him one of his most visible credits so far. The HBO drama placed him in a major young ensemble, and his scenes drew extra attention because of the show’s large fan base and his connection to one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors.
His next major television role is The Shards, Ryan Murphy’s FX series based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel. Deadline reported that FX picked up the series in 2025, with Homer joining the cast alongside Kaia Gerber, Igby Rigney, and Graham Campbell.
Entertainment Weekly also reported that Homer has completed a film with Oliver Stone.
Gere did not frame acting as something Homer has to do forever. He told People that his son is good at it and enjoying it, but said Homer could still choose another path later if he wanted.
Gere Is Returning in The Agency
Gere’s comments came as he prepared for Season 2 of The Agency, the Paramount+ spy drama starring Michael Fassbender.
Paramount+ says the second season premieres June 21, with all 10 episodes available that day. Gere returns as James Bradley.
People reported that Gere connected the series to questions of identity and the roles people play in different parts of life. He said acting has allowed him to explore interests in music, psychology, philosophy, and art across his career.
Homer is still early in his own career, but Gere’s comments made clear that he is watching closely. The “passing the torch” line was a joke, not a retirement announcement, but it gave his praise a simple shape: Homer is working, Gere is proud, and the family now has another actor building a résumé of his own.
