RJ Mitte’s fiancée, Kennedy Suarez, allegedly asked him to choose between her and his mother, Dyna, according to TMZ.
The Oct. 14 report cited unnamed sources close to the actor’s family. It did not include a response from either woman.
Mitte, who played Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on Breaking Bad, died Oct. 12 at his home in Brownsville, Texas. He was 34.
His representative told PEOPLE that he died by suicide. Brownsville police separately said the official cause and manner of death remained under investigation pending an autopsy.
Sources Could Not Confirm Whether the Couple Had Separated
TMZ’s sources alleged that Suarez believed Dyna was interfering in the relationship. They said Mitte resisted pressure to distance himself from his family, including his mother and younger sister, Lacianne Carriere.
According to those accounts, Mitte and Suarez were still together approximately a week before his death. The sources could not establish whether they had separated during his final days.
Mitte Described Supporting His Family From Age 13
In a December 2016 interview with The Guardian, Mitte said his parents divorced when he was nine months old. He grew up primarily with Dyna and had limited contact with his father.
His mother was seriously injured in a car accident about a month after Lacianne was born. Mitte said Dyna was paralyzed for six years and could not lift her infant daughter following her operations.
Twelve years older than his sister, Mitte helped feed, bathe and change her. He described becoming a father figure to her and, by 13, the family’s main breadwinner. Background acting jobs helped pay the bills before he landed his breakthrough television role.
Asked whom he admired most in a September 2016 Coach interview, Mitte named his mother. He recalled her having him repeatedly fold towels to improve his coordination and encouraging him to try activities rather than assume his cerebral palsy made them impossible.

Mitte proposed on Oct. 10, 2025, during the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad, California. The event benefited United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego, which he supported as an ambassador.
The date was also Suarez’s 30th birthday. They had been friends for more than a decade before their relationship became romantic during a trip around 2020.
“Kennedy is my everything,” Mitte told PEOPLE in an interview published six days after the proposal. He expressed excitement about building their life together. In his engagement post, Mitte thanked friends and relatives for keeping the proposal secret and Suarez for her support.

At the time of their engagement interview, they lived together in Brownsville. Suarez worked remotely as a human resources generalist, allowing her to accompany him to film projects, appearances and charitable events.
A Celebration of Life Is Scheduled in Brownsville
The City of Brownsville remembered Mitte’s leadership of the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation and his support for local arts and education. His work helped transform the former Brownsville Museum of Fine Art into The Mitte: Arts and Cultural Center.
The city also recalled his recent celebration of the Mitte Cultural District’s designation as an official Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at The Mitte, 660 East Ringgold Street. His funeral home lists memorial donation options including UCP of Central Florida, which provides education, therapy and support for children with disabilities, and the Mitte Cultural District.
