Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal switched Marvel identities for Halloween. Downey dressed as Pascal’s Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, while Pascal took on Doctor Doom, the villain his costar plays in Avengers: Doomsday.
The actors appeared together in a video Downey posted to Instagram on October 31, turning their upcoming screen rivalry into a shared Halloween joke.
“Victor. Richard. Costume swap!” he captioned the post, as Deadline reported.
The timing put the costumes less than two months ahead of the movie’s release. Disney lists Avengers: Doomsday for U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026.

Downey’s blue costume featured the Fantastic Four’s number four emblem prominently on his chest. A white utility belt completed the outfit, recalling the uniform associated with Pascal’s character in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He also posed with both hands covering his face beside his masked costar.
Pascal combined his villainous accessories with everyday clothing. He wore a silver Doctor Doom mask and green hooded cape over a dark MIT crewneck sweatshirt, with jeans underneath.
Downey’s Other Halloween Post Gives Doctor Doom Charlie Brown’s Bad Luck

Earlier that day, Downey shared a separate illustration inspired by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The drawing put a Doctor Doom trick-or-treater outside a house with three other figures in colorful hooded costumes.
A large orange hand belonging to the Thing extended from the doorway with a bowl of candy. The Doom figure held up an orange rock, accompanied by the words “I got a rock…”
The joke borrowed Charlie Brown’s recurring disappointment from the Peanuts Halloween special: while the other children collected treats, he kept finding rocks in his bag. Doom’s unwanted gift was also the same color as the rocky Fantastic Four hero handing out the candy.
WDW News Today reported that Downey posted the artwork without an explanatory caption.
Downey’s Doctor Doom Casting Followed His Years as Iron Man
Downey spent more than a decade playing Tony Stark and Iron Man before Marvel announced his new role at San Diego Comic-Con on July 27, 2024. He appeared among a group of cloaked Doctor Doom figures and removed his mask to reveal himself to the audience.
“New mask, same task,” he said during the presentation. The announcement identified his new character as Victor von Doom, marking a move from one of the franchise’s central heroes to a major villain.
Pascal’s Reed Richards arrived in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, released on July 25, 2025. Directed by Matt Shakman, that film introduced the team in a world inspired by 1960s visions of the future.
His fellow Fantastic Four actors are also part of the Doomsday cast: Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, the Thing.
Anthony and Joe Russo are directing the ensemble, which also includes Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie and Florence Pugh.
