The wait for news on the next chapter of Tom Holland’s wall-crawler is finally over, and the casting announcements are starting with a massive bang.
After months of furious internet speculation, Deadline confirmed today that Stranger Things breakout star Sadie Sink has officially signed on to join the cast of Sony and Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-Man 4. The report also dropped two massive bombshells: the film’s official title is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Sink has been cast in a lead villain role.
While Tom Holland is confirmed to return as the friendly neighborhood web-slinger, the addition of Sink as an antagonist has sent fandom hype into the stratosphere.
The Mystery Villain: Who Is She Playing?

Marvel and Sony are, naturally, keeping the specific identity of Sink’s character locked tighter than the vault at the Sanctum Sanctorum. However, confirmation that she is playing a “villain” has significantly narrowed the field of fan theories.
For years, fans have fan-casted Sink as a live-action Gwen Stacy (Spider-Gwen), particularly a multiverse variant. While a multiverse Gwen could certainly become a villain, the “villain” designation has many insiders pointing toward another iconic character: Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. The Black Cat.
Hardy is a master thief, an exceptional acrobat, and historically one of Spider-Man’s most complicated romantic foils. Given Peter Parker’s emotional state, an encounter with the morally ambiguous, dangerous Black Cat makes perfect narrative sense. Other possibilities buzzing on social media include Silver Sable or even a gender-swapped take on a classic rogue.
A “Brand New Day” for Peter Parker

The title itself, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is a strong indicator of the film’s direction. Comic book readers will instantly recognize the reference to a controversial but pivotal 2008 storyline where Peter Parker’s history was rewritten. Specifically, his marriage to Mary Jane Watson was erased from existence to save Aunt May’s life, returning him to a solitary, struggling superhero life.
This aligns perfectly with the devastating conclusion of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The world has forgotten Peter Parker exists. He is broke, alone in a shitty apartment, and solely dedicated to being Spider-Man.
A “Brand New Day” means a back-to-basics approach, likely moving away from Avengers-level threats and focusing on gritty, street-level crime in New York City. This is the perfect environment to introduce a character like Sink’s villain, someone who can challenge Peter personally and physically on his home turf.
From Hawkins to Hollywood Superstardom

Landing a central villain role opposite Tom Holland solidifies Sadie Sink’s status as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young actors.
Sink became a household name via her powerhouse performance as Max Mayfield in Netflix’s Stranger Things, particularly her emotionally grueling work in Season 4. She further proved her dramatic chops in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale.
Moving from fighting Demogorgons in Hawkins to battling Spider-Man in the MCU is a massive leap, and fans are ecstatic to see what intensity she brings to the role. The dynamic between Holland’s increasingly weary Peter Parker and Sink’s fresh antagonist is already shaping up to be the cinematic event of 2026.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated for a Summer 2026 release.
