Sahara Ray’s former roommate sought a restraining order against her in 2024. Two years later, that same woman was reportedly beside the model when she died.

Chloe Spence accused Ray of misusing prescription medication and injuring her during a confrontation at home, according to documents described in TMZ’s report on October 20. Unnamed sources told the outlet that the women subsequently resolved their differences.

Ray, the Australian model and founder of Sahara Ray Swim, died Sunday, October 18, at 34. Her family confirmed that she died in a hospital surrounded by loved ones. No official cause of death has been confirmed.

The restraining-order request was dismissed in July 2024 after neither woman appeared for a scheduled hearing. That outcome did not establish whether Spence’s allegations were true.

The Filing Described an Alleged April 2024 Confrontation

Spence filed the petition in June 2024, describing an encounter she said had happened two months earlier. According to TMZ’s account of the documents, she alleged that Ray charged toward her, grabbed her face and pressed her fingernails into her skin. Spence said the encounter left a cut and a scar beneath her left eyebrow.

She also alleged that Ray had taken Xanax without a prescription and had been in an “intoxicated delusional state” on multiple occasions. The filing described remarks that Spence said frightened her and made her fear for her safety.

Ray Had Previously Spoken About Seeking Treatment

In December 2021, Ray told followers that she had checked into a treatment facility in Malibu for a planned 30-day stay. Her announcement, recounted by The Sun, described a program addressing mental health, wellness, and drug and alcohol addiction.

Speaking at the beginning of the stay, she said she wanted to document the experience in a longer YouTube video, including its more vulnerable moments. She expressed enthusiasm about sharing her story with followers.

Following Ray’s death, her younger sister Ruby published photographs of the siblings from childhood and later years. Her October 19 tribute remembered someone she had looked up to from the moment she entered the world, whose humor, warmth and generosity had shaped her life.

Ruby called Sahara “a force of nature” and struggled to imagine having a lifetime of memories together but no more tomorrows. “I just want my big sister,” she wrote. As Us Weekly reported, she wished for more time, laughter and conversations, and promised to spend the rest of her life loving her sister.

Their mother, Gretchen Bach, also shared her grief publicly. On October 21, she posted an Instagram Story showing herself wearing Sahara’s jeans while reading and reposting tributes to her firstborn daughter. According to Page Six, Bach said she was lying on a bed at a Los Angeles Airbnb at 1 a.m., crying as she read the messages.

British model Lottie Moss also expressed regret over a missed chance to reconnect. In an Instagram Story reproduced by The Economic Times, Moss said she wished she had replied to Ray’s last message and returned her call.

Despite their past differences, she remembered several happy years of friendship. Zada closed her message with a goodbye: “I love you forever Sahara. Rest easy angel ♡”
