Sarah Ferguson is reportedly preparing to move back to England after spending recent months abroad, with a new six-bedroom rental lined up in the Home Counties surrounding London.
The Sun, which first reported the move, put the rent at £10,000 a month. PEOPLE separately said Ferguson would return within days and pay around $8,000 a month.
The reports arrived days after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to Britain with their children for an extended stay. No source has said the moves were coordinated, making the timing the only established connection between them.
Ferguson, 66, has kept a low profile since leaving Royal Lodge and spending much of 2026 abroad amid renewed scrutiny of her past correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein. Although The Sun describes the new home as part of a planned “comeback,” Ferguson has not announced a public appearance, television project or new charity role.
The Reported New Home Has Six Bedrooms and a Granny Annexe
The Sun describes the gated property as having six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a separate “granny annexe.” The newspaper did not reveal the precise location, saying only that it is in the Home Counties, and reported that the house was being cleared while engineers installed high-speed internet ahead of Ferguson’s expected arrival.
Removal vans were also seen collecting some of Ferguson’s belongings from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s residence on the Sandringham estate during the week. An unnamed source told The Sun that Ferguson had wanted to return for some time but needed to secure somewhere to live after nearly two decades sharing Royal Lodge with Andrew despite their 1996 divorce.
Her Last Confirmed Public Sighting Was in Austria in April
Ferguson’s most recent confirmed public sighting came on April 16, when photographs showed her at a secluded location in the Austrian Alps. PEOPLE reported at the time that she had been keeping a low profile while considering where she would live long term.
Ferguson last officially stepped out at the Sept. 16, 2025 funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, at Westminster Cathedral. She and Andrew later quietly attended the December christening of Princess Beatrice’s daughter Athena, but they were not photographed there.
Ferguson was subsequently linked to a chalet in Verbier, Switzerland, owned by her former partner and longtime friend Paddy McNally. McNally, a former Formula One executive whom Ferguson dated from 1982 to 1985, died July 21 at 88 following a long illness. Princess Beatrice attended his private funeral in England on Aug. 13, while Ferguson did not.
Sarah’s Trust Closed After More Epstein Correspondence Emerged
Ferguson’s withdrawal from public life coincided with continuing scrutiny of her past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. In September 2025, multiple charities ended their association with her after British newspapers reported an email in which she described Epstein as a “supreme friend” after previously saying publicly that she would have nothing more to do with him.
Her spokesperson said the 2011 message had been sent on legal advice after Epstein threatened to sue her over remarks connecting him with sexual abuse, CBS News reported. At the time, The Associated Press said it had not independently authenticated that particular leaked email.
More correspondence involving Ferguson appeared among millions of pages released by the U.S. Justice Department in early 2026. On Feb. 3, Sarah’s Trust announced that it would close “for the foreseeable future,” while stressing that the decision had already been under discussion for months.
Andrew was arrested Feb. 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office as police investigated allegations that he shared confidential information with Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy. He was released after questioning, has not been charged and has denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
Ferguson has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing in connection with Epstein. U.S. Rep. Suhas Subramanyam has publicly asked her to speak with congressional investigators about what she may know, but acknowledged in March that they could not compel her to testify.
Princess Eugenie Welcomed Daughter Adelaide This Month
Ferguson’s reported return also follows another major family development. Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed their third child and first daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, on Aug. 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.
Adelaide joins brothers August, 5, and Ernest, 3, and is Ferguson’s fifth grandchild. Reports have conflicted over whether Ferguson traveled to Portugal to see Eugenie and the baby. The Sun says she is not believed to have met Adelaide despite earlier reports to the contrary, while no public statement from Ferguson or Eugenie has confirmed such a visit.
