Adam Sandler’s famously relaxed approach to clothing apparently continues even when he goes swimming.
During an August 3rd appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, his 17-year-old daughter, Sunny Sandler, revealed that the actor jumps into the family pool with his socks still on.
Jimmy Fallon initially refused to believe the explanation, but Sunny insisted the unusual routine was real.
According to Sunny, her father waits until he is floating in the water to remove his socks because he finds it difficult to bend down and pull them off while standing on land.
The Sandler Sisters Built an Impression Around Their Dad’s Habits
Sunny introduced the story while recalling how she and her older sister, Sadie Sandler, used to impersonate their father. “When me and my sister were younger, we dressed up in his clothes, before that was popular and cool,” Sunny said. “The big shirts, the shorts.”
The sisters carried Diet Cokes, complained about the air conditioning and completed the impression by jumping into the pool with their socks on. Sunny explained that the final detail came from something their father regularly does rather than an exaggeration created for the performance.
Adam Removes the Socks Only After Entering the Pool

“He wears his socks in the pool because he can’t bend to take them off on land,” Sunny said. “That is not true at all,” Fallon responded. “He’s the funniest dude ever.” “I swear it’s true!” Sunny insisted.
Fallon then asked whether Sandler jumps into the water, floats his feet toward the surface and removes the socks while swimming. “Yes,” Sunny replied. “And then he’ll drain them, and then you play catch with them.” The soaked socks become part of a family game.
Sunny Recalled Being Taken From the ‘Grown Ups’ Set With a High Fever
Sunny also discussed her first screen appearance as a baby in the 2010 comedy Grown Ups. She said she believes she remembers the experience, although the memory may come from hearing her mother, Jackie Sandler, tell the story repeatedly.
Sunny developed a fever of 104 degrees while filming. An ambulance was already stationed nearby because members of the cast had been playing basketball and the production wanted medical assistance available.
“They put me in the ambulance and had to take me because I was burning up,” Sunny said. “But we finished the movie! We finished the shot, so it was fine.” Her early interest in acting continued through homemade iMovies she created with Sadie.
Sunny performed while her sister directed, although the projects rarely reached completion because Sadie frequently abandoned one movie after developing an idea for another. “I think that kind of got me the bug,” Sunny said of those childhood productions.
She Leads Netflix’s ‘Don’t Say Good Luck’
Sunny appeared on The Tonight Show while promoting Don’t Say Good Luck, a Netflix coming-of-age dramedy directed by Julia Hart. She plays Sophie Birenbaum, a teenager who lands the lead in her high school musical just as her mother’s cancer returns.
Melanie Lynskey plays Sophie’s mother, Elizabeth, while Max Greenfield portrays her father. The cast also includes Jack Champion, Stephanie Beatriz, Bebe Neuwirth, Steve Buscemi and Jon Lovitz. Sunny said building a close relationship with Lynskey helped her approach the film’s more difficult emotional scenes.
“I built a really good relationship with Melanie, so I got really close with her,” she told Fallon. “She also had a great relationship with my own mom, so that was really easy to kind of see her in that way.” Adam and Jackie Sandler are among the film’s producers. Don’t Say Good Luck arrives on Netflix on August 14th.
