Toni Braxton’s representative says the singer has resolved a federal tax debt totaling nearly $600,000 after a lien was filed against her in June.

The filing listed federal income-tax balances for three separate years, according to records reviewed by TMZ.

The amounts totaled $598,624. Braxton’s representative subsequently told the outlet that the bill had been “resolved.”

TMZ did not publish documentation showing how the lien was resolved.

The Federal Lien Covered Three Tax Years

The federal tax lien was filed on June 22nd and listed balances from 2022, 2023 and 2024. According to TMZ, the amounts were $69,390 for 2022, $278,876 for 2023 and $250,358 for 2024. Together, they totaled $598,624. “A rep for Toni tells TMZ the singer resolved the bill,” the outlet reported.

The lien documented a federal tax claim against Braxton. Nothing in the report alleged that she had been charged with tax evasion, fraud or another criminal offense.

California Separately Lists Braxton With a $438,406 Balance

The federal matter is separate from an entry on the California Franchise Tax Board’s list of the 500 largest personal income-tax delinquencies. The state list, updated August 6th, includes Toni Braxton of Los Angeles with a balance of $438,406.05. It identifies a lien date of December 27th, 2018.

That figure should not be added to the $598,624 federal amount and presented as one tax bill. They are separate federal and state matters. Braxton’s representative addressed the federal bill in the statement to TMZ.

Braxton Previously Filed for Bankruptcy Twice

The latest filing has also renewed attention on financial difficulties Braxton faced earlier in her career. She filed for bankruptcy protection in 1998 following a dispute with her record company.

Braxton filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy again in 2010. Court papers reviewed by Reuters at the time listed assets between $1 million and $10 million and debts between $10 million and $50 million. TMZ reports that Braxton’s second bankruptcy case was closed in 2015.
