Tay Keith left behind music rights, luxury vehicles, real estate and private business interests when he died at 29, according to newly reported court documents.
The Grammy-nominated producer, whose legal name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, did not have a will. A relative has been appointed to administer an estate that includes financial accounts, a Mercedes-Maybach, a Lamborghini and a partial interest in a Memphis home.
The filing also lists Keith’s music catalog, publishing interests, royalties and trademark, all of which may continue generating payments during the estate process. No complete valuation of those assets has been publicly disclosed.
Keith was found dead in his Nashville apartment on June 18 after police conducted a welfare check. Authorities said they did not suspect foul play, while his cause of death remained unreleased as of July 28.
The Estate Includes Cars, Accounts and Memphis Property
Court documents reviewed by TMZ state that a member of Keith’s family was appointed administrator of his estate. The listed financial assets include bank accounts and money-market accounts. His personal property includes a Mercedes-Maybach and Lamborghini, although the report does not identify the models or assign a current value to either vehicle.
Keith also held a 50% interest in a home in Memphis. The documents reported by the outlet do not name the other owner or indicate whether the estate plans to sell, retain or transfer that interest.
His Music Rights Could Continue Generating Payments
The filing lists Keith’s publishing interests, music catalog, royalties and professional trademark among the assets requiring administration. The appointed family representative reportedly intends to work with Keith’s record label and publishing companies to ensure future payments are properly directed.
Keith’s major credits included BlocBoy JB and Drake’s “Look Alive,” Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” Drake’s “Nonstop” and Sexyy Red’s “Pound Town.” He also worked on recordings by Beyoncé, Eminem, Future, Lil Baby, Jennifer Lopez and numerous other artists.
“Sicko Mode” earned Keith a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song in 2019. He received another nomination in the same category for his work on Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex.”
Keith Held Stakes in Businesses Outside Music
The estate documents also identify an interest in Shadow Tequila and a 50% stake in an engineering studio. The name and value of the studio were not included in the accessible reporting, nor was the size of Keith’s tequila investment.
Keith had previously discussed investing in businesses, real estate and technology while expanding his career beyond producing records. Through his company Drumatized, he also worked to support developing producers, songwriters and artists.
Keith Was Not Married and Had No Children
The filing states that Keith was unmarried and had no children when he died. Metro Nashville Police found Keith inside his apartment after his girlfriend requested a welfare check.
Police said no foul play was suspected, and his death remained unclassified pending the completion of the medical examination. In a statement after his death, Keith’s family remembered him as a “visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force” who created opportunities for younger artists through Drumatized.
