Taylor Swift reportedly wants more time with husband Travis Kelce after their first weeks of marriage gave way to the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp and preseason schedule.
An anonymous source told the Daily Mail that Swift is frustrated because football occupies so much of Kelce’s time and means the newlyweds cannot see each other as often as she would like. The claim was subsequently reported by The Blast, but neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly said that his NFL schedule is causing tension in their marriage.
The same source portrayed the situation as a scheduling challenge. Swift reportedly does not blame Kelce or make him feel guilty about being away, and the couple is said to see each other weekly while staying connected through phone calls, texts and FaceTime when work keeps them apart.
Swift and Kelce married at Madison Square Garden on July 3 knowing that his return to football was approaching. PEOPLE reported immediately after the wedding that the couple was looking forward to only a few weeks of newlywed life before Kelce returned to the Chiefs.
Source Says Swift Wants More Time With Kelce but Does Not Blame Him
The Daily Mail source said football is “taking up so much of his time” and claimed that Swift would prefer to see her husband more often now that his work has taken him back to Missouri.
At the same time, the source explicitly rejected the idea that Swift is blaming Kelce for the situation. According to the account, she knew before the wedding that he would have to return to practice and understood that their honeymoon period would be brief.
The source also claimed that Swift and Kelce have adapted by making sure they see each other every week and staying in regular contact when they are apart. Calls, texts and FaceTime were described as part of that routine, while Kelce reportedly sends Swift flowers when she is traveling.
A separate Aug. 27 report from Page Six offered a similarly busy but less frustrated picture, describing the newlyweds as happy while adjusting to a “new normal” in which both are returning their attention to demanding careers.
Kelce Called the Wedding ‘the Best Night of My Life’
Kelce gave his first extended public comments about the wedding during Chiefs training camp on Aug. 12, and his description contained no suggestion of trouble between the newlyweds.
“It was a fun off-season, man,” Kelce told reporters. “Wedding was the best night of my life, and I appreciate everybody who came out and celebrated and had fun with us,” according to Reuters. He called the celebration “a crazy night” and spoke about how meaningful it was to get married inside Madison Square Garden, which he described as a venue connected to one of his childhood dreams.
Kelce also found room for one less romantic observation. With New York dealing with summer heat around the time of the wedding, he joked that the arena’s air conditioning had been one of the night’s highlights before returning to questions about football.
Kelce Was Back With the Chiefs Less Than Four Weeks After the Wedding
The shift from newlywed life to football was not unexpected. Kelce was back with the full Chiefs roster for its first complete training camp practice on July 29, 26 days after the Madison Square Garden wedding.
The Chiefs confirmed that the full team took the field that morning at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. PEOPLE also reported that Kelce was greeted by fans congratulating him on his marriage as he began his 14th NFL training camp.
Kansas City then moved into a three-game preseason schedule, hosting the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 15, traveling to Tampa Bay on Aug. 22 and finishing against the Seattle Seahawks at Arrowhead Stadium on Aug. 28.
The Chiefs’ Season Opener Falls on Emmy Night
Their competing work commitments become particularly visible on Sept. 14. The Chiefs’ official schedule has Kansas City opening its regular season against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium that Monday night. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:15 p.m. Central, or 8:15 p.m. Eastern, on ESPN and ABC.
The 78th Emmy Awards begin at 8 p.m. Eastern that same evening. Swift’s Disney+ concert film, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, received five nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). Swift is personally among the nominees in that category as a producer and performer. Swift has not announced whether she will attend the ceremony.
