President Donald Trump singled out Nicki Minaj’s backside during a Michigan campaign rally on Sunday, October 25, interrupting an anecdote to call attention to the rapper.

Minaj, 43, was seated in the audience at Port Huron’s McMorran Place Arena when the president, 80, turned toward her. The crowd responded with applause and cheers.

“I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki,” Trump said afterward, as seen in footage published by TMZ.

The event came nine days before the November 3 midterm elections, with Trump campaigning for Republican candidates in Michigan.

Trump Was Recounting His Comments About Jon Husted

Trump had been revisiting an earlier exchange with Ohio Sen. Jon Husted, a former college football player. He described looking at the senator’s physique after learning about his athletic background and said his comments had been made in fun.

After telling the audience that he did not usually examine men’s bodies that way, Trump abruptly brought up Minaj. “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj,” he said. “That’s hard to miss.” He asked her to stand, and she rose from her seat.

The president then returned to his Husted story. According to Mediaite, he complained that coverage of the earlier remarks had focused on his descriptions of the senator’s body while leaving out the football context.

Minaj Later Joined Trump Onstage for Her Own Remarks

Nearly an hour later, Trump introduced Minaj for her own remarks onstage. “You know, I don’t like being overshadowed,” he said. “And this woman overshadows me, and I’m angry about it.” He called her the queen of rap as she approached the microphone.

Minaj led a call-and-response chant of “We love Trump” before addressing voters. She praised what she described as the president’s resilience and the optimism he had given his supporters, then urged the crowd to back Republican candidates.

According to MLive, she led chants for Mike Rogers, the party’s U.S. Senate candidate, and John James, its candidate for governor. She also spoke against what she described as children being “bombarded with sex changes.”

“If you run again, I will support you again,” Minaj told Trump near the end of her remarks. The 22nd Amendment bars a person from being elected president more than twice.

After she finished, Trump said she had never looked more beautiful. “She gets it. Smart,” he said, according to the full speech transcript. Minaj did not address his earlier comment about her body during her remarks.

Minaj’s Trump Support Has Included Events and a Judging Role

At the Treasury Department’s Trump Accounts summit on January 28, Minaj described herself as probably the president’s biggest fan. She said criticism of her support only encouraged her to back him more strongly, People reported.

Trump had also commented publicly on her appearance before. At a July 6 Rose Garden lunch, he introduced Minaj as “so respected and so hot,” according to the outlet’s coverage of that event.

On August 31, the Small Business Administration announced Minaj as a judge for its Million Dollar Pitch Competition. The panel also included entrepreneur Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, with actor Dean Cain named as host.
