Whitney Way Thore breaks down in tears after taking a pregnancy test with Jake Beaudoin in the new My Big Fat Fabulous Life trailer. The preview leaves the result unrevealed.
The first look, released by PEOPLE on Oct. 13, follows the 42-year-old reality star after her return to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Thore and Beaudoin had met years earlier and reconnected after her move, according to TLC’s season announcement. Their relationship develops as she continues pursuing motherhood.
When she introduces him to her family and friends, they ask about his intentions and whether he wants children. Thore worries that someone will bring up her plans to conceive before she is ready to discuss them with him.
Jake Has Reservations About Her Sperm Donor Plan
Beaudoin tells Thore he wants a committed relationship, prompting her to ask whether that would mean giving up the option of becoming pregnant with another man’s sperm. “Uh, I would prefer not,” he replies.
“I still want a baby, that’s my main objective,” Thore says. She also says she is taking a weight-loss medication on her doctor’s advice in connection with her hopes of becoming pregnant. The drug is not identified.
She Had Already Decided Not to Wait for a Partner
In an August 2025 interview with Parade, Thore explained why she had stopped waiting for a long-term relationship before trying to have a child. She had previously believed she could postpone the decision, but entering her 40s changed how she viewed the time available to her.
Season 13 documented her purchase of donor sperm and an unsuccessful attempt at home insemination, followed by treatment at a doctor’s office. Thore told the magazine she could not identify one moment that changed her mind about becoming a single mother. She had come to believe that unless she took action herself, the opportunity might pass her by.
Years earlier, Thore had experienced three positive home pregnancy tests before a doctor told her she had never been pregnant. In a February 2017 interview with PEOPLE, she said she had spent a week believing she was expecting and grieved when she learned otherwise.
“It felt like a loss,” she said. She also recalled having to explain the outcome to people who congratulated her when those episodes aired months later.
Thore Confirmed Her Engagement Before the Proposal Aired
The new trailer also includes Beaudoin asking Thore to marry him and her saying, “I am completely not ready for this.” She publicly confirmed that she had accepted his proposal in an Aug. 18 interview with PEOPLE.
That announcement came three days after she introduced Beaudoin on Instagram with photographs of the couple along North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Parkway. She described the proposal as a complete surprise.
In photographs she subsequently shared, a “Will you marry me” sign stood behind the couple. Thore said her friends had been present and her dog, Goosey, had flowers in her collar. She also recalled wearing pigtails and a bandana because she had not expected a proposal, EntertainmentNow reported.
At the Sept. 5 Creative Arts Emmys, she told PEOPLE she had misread his behavior during a trip and thought he was preparing to end their relationship. Instead, he proposed with an aquamarine ring.
She said wedding planning was underway, mentioned Iceland as a possible location and hoped cameras would capture the ceremony.
My Big Fat Fabulous Life returns Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC, according to the network’s announcement.
